The standard Mac mouse or trackpad comes with a single button.
The right click is usually performed by modifying the single mouse button by depressing the ctrl key.

Unfortunately, it seems that AI Wars doesn't allow for the use of the ctrl key to serve as the right click button, and despite remapping all of the keys in the settings menu, I have had no luck in finding a solution.

Are there any other Mac users who have figured out how to perform right clicks, in this game, with the standard Mac mouse?

I apologize for the inconvenience; we had something in the neighborhood of a hundred active beta testers, many playing the mac version, and I don't recall anyone bringing this up.  AI War doesn't try to do anything special with ctrl+left-click or command+left-click; I thought the OS translated that into a right-click signal and the app was none-the-wiser.  Apparently this is not true ;)

Anyway, it's possible that someone else has a solution; but in the meantime we can add a keybind that converts left-click to right-click at the app level.  I'll have to talk to Chris about it, though, to make sure we're doing the right thing.

That's very strange that none of the Beta testers had issues while playing the Mac version.
I can't even get the scout droid to move in the early tutorial.
I've tried everything in my power to figure out what the game recognizes as a right click, but to no avail.

Well I appreciate the response, although I'm admittedly frustrated, as I really want to play this thing.

If there are any other Mac users out there who are having issues with the right click, or can tell me what I'm doing wrong....
I'd appreciate some feedback.

Thanks

I've also got this issue, or a similar one, with the touchpad on a MacBook Pro.

I can do Ctrl-Left-Click but can't see any obvious way to do a Ctrl-Right-Click, which means I'm stalled in the tutorial. I haven't played with keybindings as I'm completely new to the game and don't want to mess them up before I understand the defaults.

I did turn on the trackpad option for secondary click in the bottom right corner and this didn't seem to help. It still does nothing when I hold Ctrl and tap the bottom right of the pad.

Ok, clearly some sort of app-level support is needed for some setups ;)

Btw, as a workaround for a small part of this, you can give the go-through-a-wormhole order by selecting the ships you want to move, tabbing out to the galaxy map, and right clicking the destination planet.  Not that this solves the overall problem, but I thought you might like to know that in general.

Chris, I'd take care of this but things have gotten highly insane over here in the last 24 hours.  But I think I know how to provide the necessary workarounds for this, if you have time:
1) Making sure that all references to LeftCtrl/RightCtrl go through some kind of key-bind; the give-order-to-go-through-wormhole is a good place to start with.  This may well already be the case.
2) Add a new AnyTime KeyBind that flips the Left and Right mouse buttons, like we did in Tidalis; probably default to KeyCode.None since this isn't something most players will desire, but some players will (apparently) absolutely require.  Still seems strange that the OS isn't passing it in as a right click.

Ok thanks. I suspect the beta testers might all have had desktops and USB PC mice? I normally use one on my MacBook for gaming but didn't bring it with me today.

I assumed ctrl-right-click with a touchpad / 1-button mouse is being presented to the app as an ordinary right click without the modifier? Not certain of this as the click behaviour seems a bit odd.

I managed to move the ship from the galaxy view through the wormhole but the tutorial didn't seem to advance. This was using the trackpad secondary click (bottom right).

I'm still having zero luck.
I can't even move the ship via the tab key workaround you suggested.

I've changed the bindings on all conflicting keys, and nothing.
There is no way to rebind the left click, or anyway to modify what constitutes a right click.

It's a pretty major issue, as anyone buying this game, who uses a Mac, cannot play unless they also purchase a USB mouse to go along with it.

Is there anyway to include a way to define what a right click is?

Thanks.

I think a lot of people who game on Macs will already have a multi button mouse. I don't recommend trying to play WoW with a trackpad for example. But yes, it looks like this is currently a blocker for those who don't have one.

It's odd that the unshifted right click doesn't seem to work either on your mouse or the trackpad. It only worked for me via the secondary click mapping.

This is weird because I have been playing it fine with the magic mouse that came with my Imac.  Tutorial or campaign, it doesn't matter.  There is only one button on this mouse, but clicking the right side of it is the right click button.  I also play WoW with this mouse just fine.

are we talking about a mighty-mouse? or one of those really old one-button mouse without the scrollthing?

Those of you having problems executing a ctrl+right-click (and thus can't send stuff through a wormhole), could you post your inputbindings.dat ?  Not your settings.dat, though, please :)

Ok, I've added a KeyBind for swapping left-mouse and right-mouse for the next prerelease, which we plan to make available tonight.  On windows it won't have a default key at all (doesn't seem needed on that platform), but on mac it will default to the LeftApple key (if you have a RightApple key it will also respond to any LeftApple binds unless you've turned on the treat-left-and-right-separate option in settings).

I checked up down and sideways for any explicit hardcoded references to the control keys, and couldn't find any.  So I guess all the problems are due to confusion about left/right clicks.

Edit: Ignore the stuff below. I obviously managed to deselect the scout somehow while I was mucking around.

The beta version does work both for normal right clicks and sending the ship through a wormhole.

Not sure how discoverable this is though? The text says to ctrl-right click.

Ok, sorry for the delay. I've finally found time to try the new beta and I'm afraid to say it doesn't appear to solve the problem.

Right clicks / ctrl right clicks don't register with my trackpad. I've tried all reasonable combinations of modifier keys and nothing happens.
