created a copy of the index page and have been adding some possible new pages/topics to it

http://www.arcengames.com/mediawiki/index.php?title=Practice_area

feel free to edit it
or comment on it on the associated talk page

I will start moving some of the proposed topics to the main index page tommorow.

Right, right.  I was just using it as an example, there are others too.

Like the page that has your's Keith's, and some other guy's starting technology unlocks, a third of which is no longer relevant due to knowledge-free starships and turrets.

I can't just rewrite the info, it's not something I have any knowledge about in order to fix.  So I just added some notes about the difference and added my own research block.

Looking pretty good.

At some point I think we should also start trying to use namespaces.  It's going to be a hell of a lot of work, but it'll be worth it.

Well, for the moment the wiki is more of a basic strategy guide than any aglomeration of information.. And well, I personally am not that great at writing something lime that in wiki form.
Honestly, after doing some work, it feels like we need to do more than just edit a few pages to bring them upto date, the entire thing needs rewriting, or at least a reimageing.

Ideas? Suggestions? Concerns? Bugs to be squashed? Report them on the Mantis Bugtracker!

It probably really does.  I know Dwarf Fortress's wiki has been rebuilt from the ground up at least three times now.  It's started using namespaces for each of the version its documenting (the old info needs to stick around for those players who still play the old versions, as well as provide at least some data about things where a page for the new version hasn't been created yet, and linked to with a handy template at the top of each article).

Exactly my point.  It's a pre-4.0 mechanic but the page is still relevant.

I was thinking a librarian type person would be invaluable for organizing this.
This is my 1st exp contributing to a wiki.
The wiki grew in an organic fashion and now several apprentice gardeners are trying to tidy up.  :)
The DF wiki is prety amazing btw

must sleep now

We need to answer a few questions I think
What is the scope of this task -- Rewrite everything from scratch // edit and add what we can // some thing else
How much time are any of us willing to give this project over what time frame
Can we get help on the 'vision' for this wiki (as Lancefighter said reimageing)

X4000 said we really don't need to worry about prior versions like DF does.
I think we need to avoid pages with specific data like ship stats since the unit stats are likely to be in flux for a while.

there is a pict attached and the source file
the software came from  http://cmap.ihmc.us/    It is now free to everyone  :)

it may prove useful in reimageing

I think that's a great idea -- though, I would prefer it a bit more compact.  I'll edit that for the moment, but that's just an asthetic thing, I love the concept.  Sorry I've been out of this so much, I've been absolutely feeling like I'm trying to swim up a waterfall lately with all the correspondence and such, and this was a lower priority for my limited time than some of the bugs, etc.  Bleh.  But this is still super important work, I'm so glad you guys have been carrying on with it.  Please let me know if I missed any outstanding questions.

Started new section on the "End Game" with two goals:
To outline what is required to take down the AI home worlds (like the new core shield generators quest ;) )
To indicate the structures unique to the AI home worlds.

http://www.arcengames.com/mediawiki/index.php?title=AI_War_-_End_Game

-----------------------------------------------------------------
It would be helpful to have access to the unit descriptions text

-----------------------------------------------------------------
I plan to start using the discussions page attached to every page to track beta changes applicable to that particular page until an official release. Pages updated to an official release should have the official release template # added to the bottom of the page. Sorting for pages that do not have that official release # is easy and should allow a systematic approach to finding pages that need to be looked at and possibly updated.
I looked at a few other wikis for ideas on keeping track of version changes. The DF wiki has an amazing system for tracking version changes, but it requires some uninstalled extensions and has some incredibly complex (and easy to break) templates for presenting/tracking versions.
