8.3 is only about 10% more ship strength. It doesn't send the same number of a higher mk ship, it compacts them so you fight less ships. Doing cross planet attacks would have that effect even in my games however, but it would probably end up tens of thousands unless I blew them up every wave. :)
Hahaha, that would be pretty funny to watch.

8.3 is possibly easier because there are overall less ships to tractor. Particularly with the new mk wave size multipliers.
I don't really use tractor beams, so I wouldn't know :P

FYI, I added the threat and threat-firepower display modes.

Yeah, 150% firepower should be more than enough. Maybe make it so it'll got at 200-300% unless 2-3 minutes pass at 125-200%, at which point it just goes for it.

Thanks!  Will save me a lot of time, and I'm sure the players will enjoy it, anyway.

Here's the remnants of a 12,000 warp counter attack that drifted away into an adjascent system

...you're going to make me suffer for when 30k threat suddenly comes in a single wave, aren't you?
I'd take a sea worm any time over a hundred emotionless spinning carriers.

When it's converted into a few HKs, yeah.  I think it's a bug that so much threat is hanging around out there, I'm not sure.  Before you upgrade to the next version, if you can take them out offensively that might be good.  But I still have to do the actual testing of what's going on, and implementation of the changes, tomorrow.  The latter half of today was all Tidalis for me, it turned out.

I love how people plan their in-game strategy based on the patch notes for the next beta  :D

I so want to add a line to the tutorial saying something like "Now be careful while capturing this ARS, the developer is going to nerf your most effective strategy in the middle." ;)

It's ok - just wait another patch or three and it'll be balanced out elsewhere. Honest!

Does anyone have a save where there's (say) 7k or more ships that are floating around your perimeter for a long time?  I'd like to have one of those to test out a new mechanic I'm thinking of.

There are 77k in one of my games. And 100k waves incoming.

(its an older save from when someting was acting insane :) )

I will try and post it when I get back home.

It was entirely a joke :)
