I think what you'll want to do these days is build a Logistics Starbase on any planet you think might have Raidship incursions.  It'll slow Raid Starships to 44, and increase all your ships speeds by 50 for a mk1, so your fleet will be able to outpace and engage raid starships.

Hmm, what about Fortresses?

Raids are also immune to Missiles aka Fortresses.  So unless you got a super fort on that planet, fortresses are useless against raids.

Yeah, a massive fortress that can smash entire waves is useless against Raid Starships... but conversely, those same raid starships die pretty quickly when being pounded by ~30 MK II fighters.

Oh goodness no, only a few existing things are actually getting modules... actually I think fortresses are the only existing unit planned to be "retrofitted" in this way.

Woo! fortresses certainly do need a retrofit (see the plethora of problems in my recent bug-list post). Good to hear.

Heh, though I thought command stations were to be done the same; oh wait, I'm assuming that's in its own category.

I hope this doesn't mean that the AI usage of forts become an even greater nightmare.  =\
