I played LoL quite a bit for a while, and that experience was one of the things that started the spark that is now AIW Champions.  But just as DotA wasn't part of the War3 campaign, a MOBA-like experience is never really going to "fit" into AIW.  It could in theory be shoehorned in with sufficient force, but I don't think that would be doing anyone a favor.

As it is, if you find someone else to play the normal role, you can just tool around in your champion starship all game making trouble for them by stirring stuff up ;)

Yeah. I would hate to inflict my tortuous availability schedule on anyone else though, and none of my RL friends are really into AI War, so it'll be tricky. I'm sure I'll figure something out.

...Which gives me an idea: Is it doable to make it possible to win primarily through your Champion? Like, you use the Champion to replace most of a main fleet?

If you played with 7 champions and upgraded them a bit in the offroad scenarios they could probably storm an AI HW by themselves if it wasn't overly reinforced, but I'm not sure about that :)

Reincarnation! Did I ever mention that it was indirectly due to RCIX that I found Arcen? I was on the Achron forums and there was a thread pointing out RCIX was a frequent contributor here so I followed the link and got interested.
