allow cheat codes?
« on: May 04, 2010, 03:28:39 pm »
Semi-random question: is there a way to change a save file to allow cheat codes? I'm curious as to how the defenses in one of my current game would hold up if I "pull the lever" (I'm at the 36+ hour mark, so the AI is pretty built up... but so is my main choke point) but when I created the game i didn't have cheats enabled. I don't have time this week to experiment and find out, but I was curious if anyone else has an answer.

Normally you can't, but I was referring to the save game file, which presumably has some way to track if cheats are enabled. I've just got too much going on this week to spend a few hours figuring out the save game format.

Pulled the lever. 17000+ ships attacked, 80% core. I'm still waiting on the group of 12-13k massed outside my choke point to actually decide to attack. I think they're stuck trying to arrange themselves into a pretty bathroom tile-set...

Not quite. I'm running at +10 speed building stuff to kill the 2800+ core bombers waiting to come through (anything with bonuses, then other ships, then merc fighters). Once I get to merc fighters I'll start churning out light starships to poke them with  :o

Well, it took a 5000 ship fleet to finally convince them to invade, but when they did they swamped my defenses. If I hadn't had to sacrifice all my ships to convince them to come in I might have held them off though. Still, there's no reason for the AI to wait once they have 2-3k ships about to come through (or perhaps 2-3x times the ships the defenders have in system?).

I wonder why the AI has trouble initiating attacks sometimes.  I've seen it quite frequently where AI ships will gather on a portal preparing for an attack and just never attack.  I imagine the 'missing threat' from CPA's is related to the same thing.

I always seems to get this issue. There are always left over ships sitting on the threat counter that never attack. They just sit there, somewhere.

Something is needed to convince these ships that there is nothing to be afraid of on the other side of that wormhole they are all cowering at.

Reminds me of the minor AI the LOTR-movie folks used to handle the majority of the orcs in the animation for the Battle of Helm's Deep... a bunch of the orcs just ran away ;)

Heh, the only problem here is that the AI is too smart.  Keep bothering them and they patiently wait, until you send half your fleet, then they destroy the fleet and rush through to kill everything else. :)
