All ships are painted black

Hey guys...

can someone tell me why all my ships are displayed with no "textures", just black with an outline?

I've already checked the options, but haven't found anything to turn this on/off.

I love black as a player color, even if its so ungodly useless.
(My default AI War color is actually a pale gray...which has unit selection in the lobby problems, as its basically the same color as an unselected unit...)

Hm.... Ok, that must be it.
I'm a total newbie to the game, and always thought "Hey, my ships look different than in the tutorial"...

Just FYI, you can change your color through esc>Manage Players in case you didn't already know that.

Looks quite a bit better now, thanks...
I already thought that the game is missing some textures. (Or is it called "sprites" in a 2D world?)

For most intents and purposes the term "texture" is more appropriate here because we are actually using a 3D graphics engine and all the graphics draw calls are going to hardware that's designed and optimized for 3D, etc.

I'm surprised it hasn't been mentioned yet: zoom in, the textures will pop back.

My favorite player colors: purple, yellow. Yellow's the best for galaxy flares.
