  • More turrets! MORE TURRETS!
There have been a couple of topics about that, actually -- Zenith Remnant is usually seen as the most must-have out of them, partly because it was the first but mainly because of the sort of things it added. Light of the Spire is the other full-sized expansion out of the mix, and the fallen spire campaign in it is particularly popular these days, too. Hope that helps!

I'd rate Fallen Spire first, Zenith second, Neinzul third myself.

The Zenith expansion provides most of the goodies, extra ships, and a lot of the tools you will need to go after the other expansions. I'm not sure how I would play without this expansion, as I utilize everything in it every single game I play.

The CoN expansion, from my perspective, is for advanced players in an already advanced game. It has some of the most unforgiving AI in the game, and hybrids alone are worth the price of admission, but in my own opinion I feel that the ships and the hybrid material are best utilized by players that know what they are doing. I just recruited a friend of mine into buying all the expansions, but, we are not playing with a lot of the really difficult stuff because it requires more experience.

The fallen spire expansion is amazing, and the campaign always feels fresh and exciting. However, I think this is best for players that have already tortured the AI and are playing on high difficulties and need something else to challenge them. It is more difficult to have much success against the campaign without the Zenith expansion. I don't see how someone would conquer a lot of these events without a great deal of understanding on the mechanics from prior expansions.

So, in order of my favorites, Zenith->Spire->CoN . I have enjoyed them all so just pick them all up.  :D

The CoN is a very mixed bag in my opinion. It seems from the responses so far no one is absolutely in love with it. But I do! I love the younglings, I love the minor plots, I simply love the nenzul. But even so, I wouldn't recommend it as a first choice because it seems to apply to only a limited audience.

The first choice is the zenith remnant. If there was a "power scale" for the power of player units and ai units in general, it would go "base game, zenith, fallen spire".  Trying to jump from base to fallen spire is a huge jump in firepower, but jumping from base to zenith and then later spire is less of a jump. For that alone, I recommend zenith first.

Put another way, it is easier to introduce what I call "capital ships" (ships costing more then 300k metal and crystal) through the zenith then through the spire, in my opinion. The AI response is more tempered as well I think then compared to the spire.
Life is short. Have fun.

Thanks everyone for the input!

I picked up Zenith as by most accounts seems to be the next "logical" purchase. Sounds like it should keep me busy for a while.

For anyone who hasn't loaded up on the whole Arcen catalog yet, do so now. The price is great, the games are great, and you're a damned fool if you like strategy games and don't have the full AI War collection by the end of this.

I went back and downloaded CoN, also - for $1.99 it seems like its worth it- plus the money for it goes to a children's charity...

Good gaming!

A friend of mine gifted me the second and third expansions for AI War today as an early birthday present (already had the first), prompting me to pick the game back up. Man has a lot changed. Last I played the game was 3.0.

I have a lot of catching up to do. This time around I have a good buddy to play coop though, so I don't expect my interest to wane off like last time. Maybe I will actually beat a campaign this time  ;D

Welcome back!  It's good to see you again. :)

At lot's been streamlined since 3.0, so I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

I grabbed the bundle while it was on sale and I've played it as much as other strategy games I've had for months or years. I get the feeling that may continue, as well. It's an awesome game, thanks for making it. :D

Level 7 AI is pretty tough, though. Hopefully I'll manage to win this game...
