Alert Audio Rework
« on: September 07, 2009, 11:35:08 pm »
I'm really getting annoyed with the damn near inaudible Wave Added and Command Station Under Attack sounds, so I'm replacing them with something a little more... well.. alarming (See what I did there? ;))! Anyway, I found a good sound for the Command Station Under Attack, I'll be finding another for the Wave Added at some point tomorrow. Just Extract the zip to your Sounds directory.

Haha, nice. I'm pretty used to whatever is used for the normal "under attack" thing, so I don't need it.

I did replace the "incoming wave" sound tho, since I normally never hear the default. My one is unmissable. ;]

I didn't know that there was a "home hit" sound either. I replaced the one I had with this one. Thanks  :D

I find this really curious, as I've never had trouble hearing these sounds. I just tried listening to them with my subwoofer muted; the incoming wave sound took a major hit, in my opinion, but was still rather audible. I didn't notice much of a different at all in the command station sound with my subwoofer muted. What sort of speakers do you guys have, out of curiosity?

I have a Teufel 5.1 System ;) the incoming wave sound has 0 alertness to it, i commonly mistake for a background sound and when music players i NEVER hear it, or notice it.. one of the both.

Though it doesn't help i have "effects" and "music" muted, because 2400 ships firing all at once.. hurts my ears (and music.. well i have my own ,p)

Notice that this is why i wanted Interface sounds separate from Unit Effects

But i do agree that the sound attached in OT is MUCH better than the original one. At least it really emits a tone of alertness..

Generally the sound of AI War is the one thing that really needs a re-work (Not the music) - There especially needs to be some kind of "sound grouping" so that 50 bombers don't produce 50 separate shot sounds, but 1 sound of a "large fleet of bombers firing" that way it wouldn't be soo cluttered.

May be better to do this as a suggestion..

My desktop has a 7.1 Creative Inspire system and having the Woofer cranked all the way up is the only way I can hear the default alert sounds. My Steel Series Siberia's also can pick them up, but I can't hear a damn thing on my laptop, even with its Bass Reflex turned on, its barely audible.

EDIT: Ok, got a sound for Incoming Waves and added it to the ZIP and put them inside the Sounds folder, so all you need to do is extract this to your AI War Directory and overwrite the Sounds. For those of you who may think these effects sound familiar, they are if you happen to be a fan of Introversion Games :D

Hey everyone,

In the coming weeks, I'll be working on editing a lot of those sounds. Thanks for the suggestions!

Fan of Defcon I see? :p

Also, when I said "under attack" i meant the "homehit.ogg" one.

Very much so. Probably one of the most well balanced and solid games I've ever played. Especially love Diplomacy mode with a full 8 player game. Nothing beats it.
