These sales are definitely a net benefit, by far. For a sake of comparison, when we did our big sale in late October, we made about 150% of our revenue from May-September all in one week there. Of course, some of that was just coming out on Steam and Direct2Drive in addition to our other platforms, but even so November was only about 30% of the revenue of that single week in October. Already in the last two days, we've made as many sales as in a normal full week, even including the discount.
Until I really started selling my own products, I had no idea how sale-driven the digital distribution marketplace is, but it truly is a huge driver in general in this market. That's why all of the publishers and developers, indie and not, do it so frequently here. That may change over time as the digital marketplace grows and matures, but for now that's the model that pretty much everyone uses here, and it works pretty well. To be honest, a lot of retail stores in the US use a similar sort of model to drive foot traffic and really capitalize on holidays and so on. Funny how that goes!
