Well, I actually found out about AI War through Chris's blog and posts on his thoughts on AI development. I'm a professional software architect who always wished he were a game developer, and so I read several game developer blogs from time to time.
I eventually downloaded the demo and after a few minutes figured I liked his blog enough to spend the $20 bucks on the game regardless of whether I actually liked it.
I liked it a lot, found and read the forum and decided to post a few suggestions. They got turned around almost immediately (not that this should surprise anyone here, but there were many fewer people slamming poor Chris with suggestions at the time).
Small, tight community, small dev. shop: I'm in. I guess I'm along for the ride now since both of those things seem to be changing - and that's not really a bad thing!
