: AI War On GoG!!
: a7thson August 18, 2014, 09:46:12 AM
YES!!!   It's on GoG!
http://www.gog.com/news/release_ai_wars_collection

And on sale at $6.79USD through August 25th, for EVERYTHING including the newest DLC.
I needed to pick up the new expansion anyway, so I just bought a new copy of the full game instead - a good excuse to hand Arcen more money :-)

Yay Arcen!  Yay GoG!!

I'm tempted to rebuy it that way I don't have to deal with Steam anymore when I want to play...

You already don't have to.  Just run the exe from the install location.  You can easily create a shortcut to it and place it wherever you'd like.  While AI War is Steam communicative it is not Steam required.

Oh? Wonderful news, wish more games on Steam would do this. Is this true of all of Arcen's products? I also have Valley Without Wind.

Can you install DRM Free versions of the expansion to the Steam version of the game?
: Re: AI War On GoG!!
: @B0FH August 18, 2014, 12:38:54 PM
Yes you can! But you also get a Steam key with the DRM free copies anyways so have a choice

Is Arcen Crazy? The new expansion just released for $4.50 and they are including it in a bundle for $6.80 which includes the rest of AI War?
Pretty much paying just $2.30 for the rest of the game.

Don't have the last three expansions, it's cheaper for me to just buy the collection, which I will. Just need to decide on direct from Arcen or from GOG.

Is Arcen Crazy?
The answer to that should have been obvious years ago :)

6.80$ you said? :o

How long? When does it end? How many time have I to call all my gamer friends?

EDIT:
Is there a way to gift it without Steam?

Somebody needs to contact GOG or something because...no.

In the Arcen Store, the DLC bundle containing all the expansions (including the new one) is $4.00.  The new expansion alone is $4.49.  Something seems off there.

I "needed" the new expansion and have wanted this game on my GOG account for years anyway, so I just bought the whole thing again. *clink!* Here's a bit more of my disposable income, GOG + Arcen!

Probably true for that one, but not for all of them. Depends on how tightly Steamworks is being used (which is why lots of other games don't do it, GOG is incredibly primitive compared to what Steam offers developers).

ALL of Arcen's games are DRM free, you don't need steam for any of them.

Arcen Games' games have no DRM.

AI War and its expansions have those keys you have to enter after installation (actually, I guess Vengeance of the Machine didn't... I don't know about Destroyer of Worlds, I don't have that one yet; but the first four expansions and the base game worked like that)... While very minor DRM- especially compared to the intrusive and archaic monstrosity known as Steam- it's still technically DRM.

And it's as secure as as "What's the third word of the second paragraph of the 14th page of the user manual that you got with the CD?"

I would like to complain about the review left by Wingflier on Gog.   Quote follows:

"Form alliances with powerful alien races, steal the AI's superior technology, discover and re-active ancient superweapons, calculate the risks of nuclear warfare, and with the latest expansion, destroy entire planets at your whim - but whatever you do, stay under the AI's radar until you are ready, or prepare to be displayed in an alien museum somewhere, as an extinct race."

The last comma is completely unnecessary.   >D
It was good to see some of the old hands pipe up with some accurate statements about the game.

AI War doesn't use Steam DRM.  I also don't find Steam's DRM all that intrusive anyway, but maybe that's just me.

Anyway, glad to see this on GoG.  AI War Collection is currently the #2 on their top sellers, behind only Witcher 3.

If that's the only grammatical error I made on that short (and now impossible to edit review), it would be some sort of miracle.

I think all updates are handled by the game itself.

I noticed that I could get all the DLC direct from Arcen, so I went that route instead of buying from gog. I already have the base game + 3 dlc on steam. Not that anyone really cares  ;D

I did the same thing. I didn't see the point in paying an extra $2.80 just to have it on gog. I missed the DLC pack on arcen the first time I looked and didn't know it was their until someone pointed it out. Glad they did.

So, for a while there AI War was in the top sellers list. Even now it seems to be number three. Be interesting to know how the stats shake out after the sale, especially as compared to steam.

They're on different orders of magnitude, but being in the top 3 at GoG is substantially preferable to a stick in the eye :)

And actually, it looks like net revenue from GOG in August is hovering just under 33% of Steam's total for this month (though the month isn't over yet, and I expect that number could shrink to 25%) . Undoubtedly the slightest gap we've seen between Steam and another distributor -- maybe ever, and absolutely when both distributors are essentially competing for sales with the same style of promotion running alongside one another.
