uh, i think somewhere in the recent RCs the 'z' range indicator optimization has been lost. My fleet of 600 ships results in a laggy blue circle when z is pressed. :/
Is your cursor over the fleet at the time?

well... yes. there do seem to be more of range indicators than i remember even when i do not hover over the fleet. If it isn't a problem, that's fine.

Not to derail this further from the 7.0 release (congratulations btw, another fantastic milestone in the evolution of AI War), but what's this client for Stardock's games? Last I remember was Frogboy basically saying suck it up and deal with Gamestop now, we don't owe you anything.

Steam for anything new. For any existing purchases (including ones made through Impulse), you can use Stardock Central or their direct download page.

And yeah he did say that. He's stuck to it in terms of not giving out Steam keys for stuff bought before their stuff was on Steam, but everything new is on Steam (in fact Sins: Rebellion and AFAIK Fallen Enchantress Legendary Heroes are Steamworks games and have to be run through Steam).

While hovering it's supposed to draw the circles filled in, which slows things down more.  But if you're not over it then it should just draw the dotted lines.

It's possible I messed up the optimization that doesn't draw redundant circles (circles of the same radius with center-points within X distance of each other, where X increases the more zoomed out you are) when adding a separate but similar optimization for counter-shot ranges, but I don't think that's what happened.  I use z and such a fair bit on large groups, too.

Still, is anyone else seeing a big decrease in performance when showing ranges, compared to showing ranges in 6.0?

Edit: Oh, and Counter attack posts are not limited to their mark of planets away, a mk 2counter attack post 5 systems away just sent a wave to my homeworld.

Again?

Wait, isn't there a rule that let's them go a bit further in some cases?

Or is the rule that it is limited to their mark of planets away from some AI planet, not necessarily the one they are on?

There is either a gate within 2 hops of your HW OR there are no gates within 2 hops of any of your planets so it used the "old" rules.

Opened your save. My computer wept. Switched to the ST planet and ship icons filled my screen, so I zoomed out. Game told me that it _was_ totally zoomed out. You could seriously walk from one end of the inner grav well to the other without getting your feet cold.

Rumor has it that Gamestop bought up impulse from Stardock after Sins Trinity OUTSOLD C&C4, just to try and try and force people to stop buying indie games from it. (By their typical tactic of "customer service") Stardock took the money from the sale and built up Rebellion and swapped over to Steam. It was harsh on those of us who bought from them directly, but there is a reason that Sins: Rebellion is completely standalone and contains all the content from the basegame and 2 previous expansions. So I am not surprised that Gamestop isn't going to support AI War anymore.

Still, only thing that prevents me from completely believing the rumor is that I don't see what Gamestop has to gain by trying to hold back indie games... Steam makes a very nice profit from the indie games that it distributes. You would think that Gamestop would want a piece of it. It's not like indies are really that much of a threat to major AAAs. Sure Sins may have outsold what was supposed to be the most anticipated RST game of all time, but IMO that was more of a fail on EA's part than success on Stardock's side. (Not that I am harping on Sins, I LOVE that game.) EA screwed up so bad with C&C4 that it was doomed.

You do NOT take the core of the gameplay and gut it out. (Base building? Why ever would we keep this in a C&C title? Tech Trees? Lets make it completely irrelevant to the story and based solely on total games played. With Multiplayer games counting for more than Campaign games. Its not like there is a story that people have been waiting to see finally come to an end or anything) You do NOT take biggest plot twist of the game and most anticipated event yet (the arrival of the Scrin, and their main fleet coming to avenge the defeat of the Scrin commander) and THROW IT AWAY, with only a footnote mentioning that they already came and were pushed back. And you certainly do NOT make it an ALWAYS ONLINE game that will TURN IT SELF OFF WITHOUT SAVING IF YOUR NET FAILS FOR MORE THAN 40 SECONDS. And absolutely, above all else, you should never, EVER do all of these things in the same damn game.

If the above seems very, VERY bitter, its because it is. I was a major C&C fan. I have bought and paid for the PC version of every single C&C game up to right before C&C 4. I was willing to beg after I finished Kane's Wrath to see what happens next with the story. I had a geekgasm upon seeing the trailer for C&C 4 with Kane walking into GDI Command with the Tacticus informing them he had come to "save them all". The man is Magnificent Bastard personified, and I couldn't wait to see what he was going to do next. And then... yeah... I gave away all my copies of C&C games. I was done. And I haven't paid for a single EA game since, and probably never will again.

Well... all that ranting aside... I still haven't got my email secured, so for now don't send me anything in an email. I will send you a PM when I get it cleaned up and find out who/what hacked in and what it might have been after. I will just live with a "unclean" install, and ignore the CDO raging at me about it.

Hmm, some of the new tracks are surprisingly pleasant/soothing for a game with Vengeance in the name, like A New Dawn and (ironically) Ashes to Ashes. That said, they're still great; besides, I'd get a headache if they were all martial themes like Return to Glory or depression if they were all somber like a number of the AS tracks.

Well done as always, Pablo :)

Keith, are you sure you changed the material value for Lightning Torpedo? It's still 50k/50k for me and I can still get good resource out of it when I scrap them...(I'm on 7.0, full installer)

Whoops, you're right.  I'd changed it but not in the right place.  Fixed for 7.001, thanks :)

I love: Title Theme, Return To Glory. Falling Down has some really good dissonance. Other songs have moments that probably didn't blow my mind but functioned as good background music. Rising Up is a really pleasant song that doesn't sort of have a 'roaming' feel, but a really focused and certain flow to it, which is going to be really memorable to me. Another song I love. Round and Round sounds like living inside the mind of the AI. Pretty good. And, right after that, The Hurricane has absorbed me into another Rising Up or Return To Glory sort of feeling. Really great. The 'AI War theme' interlude made me actually almost wish for a song where the AI War theme isn't in relatively calm quiet environments. I remember a song where it just starts really softly and ramps up to fortissimo in the middle of the theme. That kind of blew my mind. I think that was in A War Worth Fighting.  Of course, this isn't to take away from the song. I loved it.
Also, Vengeance of the Machine, sounding pretty great. I'm currently imagining a scripted boss fight scenario synchronized to this music, versus the GCS.

This post is basically just running commentary of me listening to the soundtrack.

I have discovered a most unusual scout, when the AI is Chivalric.

Suggested fix: Make ARS blind.

Let's see if I did this attachment thing correctly.

[Unrelated: This particular game is... 5/5 Fortress Baron/Chivalric, Entrenched Homeworlder/Chivalric, Pain Train 10 on both, Hunter 10 on AI 2. On an X map. I'm in the middle]

[Related to the above: Core Missile Turrets kill Astro Trains quite nicely]

It doesn't have the "Gathers Scout Intel" property though, so it's of rather limited use.

On that note, why are Resistance ships blind?

Just came here to report this too. Although it is quite nice when you pop a full cap of lightning frigates into an enemy planet for a minute or two then scrap 5,000 warheads at once.
