Edit: Actually, that's a bug. We set things up with one "random non-technologist" and one "random moderate," so how could we have drawn two starship commanders?

Starship Commander is in both of those categories as it is a moderate AI as well as a non-technologist. It's still random unless of course its consistent that they are always the same AI as the other; if that's what you are getting at that would be an interesting bug.

I thought SS Commander was "harder?" It certainly used to be, I'll double check.

Also, now that I'm playing it, I'm happy to say I can once again look at my Stats window and Message Log.

So abandoning the 2 easier turtles we start a new game... and end up with two starship commanders. I can confirm that waves are working just fine for me now...  :-\

Edit: Actually, that's a bug. We set things up with one "random non-technologist" and one "random moderate," so how could we have drawn two starship commanders? I'll try and report it in mantis in a bit.
How's that a bug? Starfleet Commander is a moderate AI, so "Random Non-technologist" picks from the ENTIRE list, and "Random Moderate" picks from the moderates. What's the problem?

So I'm not the only one? I played for 4 hours last night (Difficulty 7, Random Moderate/Easier AI) and had about that many waves, one of which consisted of one (1) Leech Starship. So it was really only like 3 waves.
Do you have a FailedAssertions.txt or other log file?  If so, please post them :)  Without those, we can't get a better idea of what's causing the problem.

The problem is that I misremembered Starfleet Commander as a harder AI, my bad.

Still, pulling two turtle-types on a double-random-draw and then two starfleet commanders on another double-random-draw is a pretty impressive feat of probability.  Or was the first draw non-random?

The first was random as well, that was a random easier/moderate and a random all non-technologist. Yeah, I'm pretty impressed by our (lack of?) luck.  ;D On the third try we finally seem to have gotten something more manageable, so things are going smoothly now.

Are the people with FailedAssertions.txt files going to get them to me somehow, or do there need to be ninjas involved? ;)

(I am kidding)

The FailedAssertions.txt file I referred to was mostly from 4.020.  While playing today on the same game with 4.021, I didn't get any more additions to the FailedAssertions.txt file and I noticed a significant increase in incoming waves (as in, there were some :)).  If I run into them again, I'll be sure to post the error log.

What about offline patches/updated installers for official releases? You did that for the SlimDX distribution, will you still do the same for the Unity builds?

Thanks!

Yes, for sure, we'll definitely be doing updated installers.

Meanwhile, if you want the raw zip files, you can get a list of them here: http://www.arcengames.com/dl/AIWarBetaUpdates2.xml

Simply unzipping them into your game folder in order would give the desired result if you want the betas that way.  Hope that helps!
