AI War music
« on: October 29, 2010, 02:52:38 am »
I guess this is an odd thing to post about, or especially make my first post on here about but, I think some of the new tracks are really out of place.

I love the AI war music, and could let the main menu music loop for hours, but some of the new tracks with the guitar sound really jarring. All the piano, strings and light electronic/industrial stuff sounds amazing and I think it really 'fits' better. They seem to ease themselves into the background and have sort of a lonely 'spacey' feel to them. The first time I heard the guitar shredding up and down some mad riffs I thought, "uh ok well this is different" and a few minutes later thought, "god this is terrible". I much prefer the old Thor and Warp tracks compared to the new stuff.

Anyone else feel the same?

Yeah, we're aware of it. Pablo Vega, that composed the music in AI:War, have already said that "Warp" might be removed entirely, since he's not happy with it. It's terrible.

The old Warp was my favorite tune in AI War overall, I'd rather them restore the old one than just remove it completely! I do agree the new one is less enjoyable which is odd for me with my extreme metal background but I found the old Warp to not only be more inspiring, as I like faster and heavier music, but also a better fit to the game than the new version

I kept a copy of the old music files in a separate folder, just to listen to old Warp on occasion. So I'd be the first to request to not just remove the tune completely, but instead to restore the old one.

Have to agree about those two new tracks. I think all of the others are better than the originals, and I very much enjoy them. I'm going to see if I can download the older versions of those tracks to replace them into my music folder.

edit: its easy enough to restore the old versions of warp and thor if you're interested, I just downloaded an old demo version (check the arcen site main page and there are some old slim dx versions hosted in a couple of places), then just copy over the old .ogg files into your folder.

I personally really like those 2 songs though. They might be different, but I still think they are good in a different way. In fact I'm backing up those 2 songs now so I can restore them in case an update decides to delete them. I guess I just have a different opinion than you all.

Well, its all wholly subjective, after all :)

That reminds me, how long is one of those tracks on average? I seem to just have the one track playing in the background the whole time (I only have the base game at this point).

The tracks are around 5 minutes each. Some of the "grating" guitar will be fixed in the next couple of edits. I'm sorry if some of you feel it out of place, but it might just be the mix right now. Hopefully the newer edits will make them better for those of you who don't like them.

If you are just having Midnight playing, then probably you downloaded an early beta installer and then just kept using the in-game updates (reasonable to do).  But, the music wasn't included in the beta updates because of the bandwidth cost to us, so you'd need to download a 4.0 installer for the base game and the expansions you have, and that would install the rest of the music for you.

The guitar is a little out of place. Going from Midnight Starfields (Beautiful track btw) to Warp is just a bit harsh.
