If the player suicides a lot of ships at once the AI says "Why are you throwing your lives away".. or something like that (I've deleted the taunt sound files). It wouldn't make any sense to have humans pilot the ships. Humans are at the brink of extinction so it would be pretty stupid to risk lives. Also. A Figther is almost as big as a whole human settlement. So either it would take a buttload of humans to operate 1 Fighter or the settlements are very small. And it's possible for the player to have thousands of ships.. and if all of those ships get destroyed the player can rebuild them over and over again. The only limiting factor is Metal. So remove the "Why are you throwing your lives away" taunt or add "Population" resource?

Also how is the AI able to "taunt" the player? Does the AI have humans' phone number? It's the same in all games where the enemy "taunts" the player. A bit stupid IMO.

Actually if I remember correctly, the AI doesn't get scouts because it ALWAYS has the effect of Full Vision. They know where everything is. Including the Human HW(s).  So the AI being able to taunt Humanity makes sense, since they could just direct a focused transmission right at the Human HW(s) using

Giant megacloaked space speakers. So cloaked they don't even show up in scouting.

As for how they deal with sound in space, they have mastered Intergalactic Space Travel. That already makes physics cry. So whats a little more bending of reality as we know it?

The AI doesn't have to use actual sound waves. it could just be taunting us in advance and then throwing [insert probably-not-radio-communication here] waves at the human HW's, which reach us in a precisely timed manner.

Permacloaking does exist.  Spirecraft penetrators briefly mounted such technology.
And don't forget, the planetary cloaking device will hide structures from the galaxy map listing.

Yes, but it sounds so much more BA to think they DO use sound waves and screw physics, because they can. It would also be infinitely more intimidating. Which is scarier? The AI hacked your communications for a bit, or the AI casually bent the laws of reality just to send a oneliner at you? To me, the latter would be much more terrifying, because its like an Act Of God. And then remember that this is the force you are trying to defeat...

Sir, we have a wide-band transmission coming in from the other side of the galaxy! Packet analysis indicates it is from one of the AI!

Decoding...

It's an uncompressed WAV file! Those bastards!

Worse!  Its an uncompressed wave file that decodes into a SSTV image!  DEAR LORD!

... and it's a 3 minute long animated GIF of a gently rotating robotic hand with the middle digit extended!

Heh.
(Although that would be a ~30 hour wave file; slow scan TV is slow)

Yes, but you have to remember that turning even an image as small as that one into a SSTV signal means that each frame is 30 seconds long or more. ;)

So it's kind of like playing on High caps?

Kind of. :P

SSTV has kind of come back as a "thing" because of various ARGs.  The Portal one being the most recent.
The sound files, in order, 0:35 to 1:15 results in this:

(And at that size)
