AI War IRL
« on: March 06, 2010, 10:18:07 pm »
Has AI War affected your real life in any way?

Tonight, I was sitting on the couch studying a manual after dinner, and all of a sudden I wondered who the hell was coming through a wormhole into one of my systems, and how that was possible when I not only wasn't playing AI War but didn't even have the computer in the room --

Turns out that my dishwasher's drying cycle sounds a lot like a mass wormhole transit. >.<

Well, instead of having not enough minerals/pylons, I have not enough ColonyShip_cap.
I'd take a sea worm any time over a hundred emotionless spinning carriers.

It sounds like you're lucky you survived to post about it!  Those CPA's (Cross Pantry Attacks) can be deadly.  :)
Time to roll out another ball of death.

So what? In my current game Murdoch is conquered and safe. So maybe there was a support fleet arriving?  ;D

I once had the CTU ringtone for my cellphone, takne from "24". I had to change it after a time because I heard that sound EVERYWHERE and thought my phone was ringing. Went quite paranoid^^ I can imagine a AI War fleet command could also make me a bit paranoid and make me think that my homeworld is in danger everytime I get a message^^ I think I shoul try it at least  ;D

Just a bad personal experience and luck, 80% of the games we've played so far, Murdoch was a problem planet (a homeworld, mark III or IV, or a rare and deadly type of ship/tech). Our current game's Murdoch has an attrition emitter (the ONLY planet in our map to have one, btw).

Also, good idea. Gonna go make me some AI War cell phone sounds now.

I had the Red Alert klaxon from Star Trek on my phone for a while, but it scared people when it went off, so I changed it to the communicator chirp.

I use a naval klaxon as my pager alarm.

My normal ring is the Sesame Street "Yep yep" aliens' encounter with a phone. "RING! RING! Phoooooooooone! Yep yep yep yep yep yep..."

I use the incoming message ding from x2/3 for my phone..
Or rather, if I had a phone that let me change the sound properly, I would use that.

Long enough that you can figure out wtf is going on, but short enough that people wonder if they actually heard something..
