Unity style vs. pixel-art buttons
« on: October 09, 2010, 09:58:43 am »
First, I was sceptical about the new art style of the unity port. Then, I realised how slick this feels.
Because the style is more abstract, the overall game feels more strategic. In my view, however, the old pixel-art styled buttons feel oddly out of place.
It might be a combination of the current placement (lots of space between them) and the rather flourish design of the old button corners.
In my humble opinion, then, I vote for a more abstract design for the buttons as well.

I do know that this is an early preview, and it might be already on the list of todos... but I do feel the buttons need an overhaul to improve the current immersion factor.

I made a quick button out of the PanelBorder/Corner pngs in Images/Menu, very simple - what do you guys think?

If you are wondering, I replaced Images/ButtonEmpty.png, which is used in the left corner of the hud. This sort of style could be used in colored versions for the other button corners as well.

not sure I would call those buttons pixel art. I see what you're getting at, though.
