I just loaded up my previous save after it updated to 7.048 and then 7.049 right away, has anyone else playing noticed that the sound is acting really oddly? It was fine last night and no other game has this so I presume it's the patch. The sounds (not the music) are distorted and the volume sometimes climbs to very high levels.

It might be just my imagination, but I just booted it up on my mac, and it seems to be running a bit faster. Has something been further optimised or am I living the dream now?  ;D
Unity update probably affected your mac.

Cool. :D

Finally have a few game hours tonight, so I'm hoping this is a good sign.

I've been trying to decide whether to play AIWar or Distant Worlds, but I'm a bit worried about stability and wasting my precious game time. Also reading about the sound issue and not having access to my Mac at the moment to check makes we wonder whether its best to wait a little longer to start playing AIWar again.

Yes I have, at first I thought it was only the music but the game seems to get louder or is distorted. When you get into battles or are clicking on items ect.

Chris thinks it's probably because now when the game issues 100 calls to the same sound effect really quick (like "double-shell bullet hitting a ship"), all 100 of those calls now actually happen, as opposed to getting capped by the old system's limitation on the number of simultaneous sound-group objects.  I've asked if there's some other limit he can put in place to prevent the distortion/volume problems.

*nods*

It can get painfully loud at times especially when it happens upon clicking a destination on the galaxy map and certain battle sounds.

If it's causing pain, please disable the sound until we can fix it :)

It was quite a shock since I have the volume turned down already while listening to some Youtube, so already adjusted it after the blast.  :o

I most certainly will check this out once the Linux binary gets distributed (how will we be able to tell when that is done?). I know it might take a while for that to get onto Steam, but I can always download it from the site direct, and when Steam realizes there is now a Linux version, then I can just have it verify on top of that existing installation (a trick I have used on several games that have later gotten released on steam, symlinks help with this :))
symlinks are a dark and dangerous road...

Anyway, the linux build is now available via the steam beta branch for anyone feeling adventurous.  It's been tested, but, well, anything goes.  A non-steam linux build isn't done yet, but this method is available for those wishing to test it.

Just installed the Linux version via the Steam beta branch.  I'm missing the Neinzul Youngling graphics though, they show up as red squares on the planet select in the lobby, and I get a ColorMask missing error when I try to build one.  Only affects the original set of younglings, (Firefly is unaffected).

Yep, we know about that.  Basically it's because linux is case-sensitive and the files don't exactly match the case that the game asks for.

Chris is working on a fix, this isn't the first time we've had to deal with this :)

Thanks for letting us know, either way.

Update: 7.050 to fix several issues with sounds playing very loudly and distortedly and with images not loading on linux.

And that's all the port/linux bugs that have been reported that we're aware of.

How are the textboxes behaving (on windows, osx, or linux) ?  We've seen strangeness from them in some tests, but perhaps that strangeness is specific to the testing environment?

:D

This is one reason I love Arcen so much. If this was a certain MMO I was until recently playing this bug would be around for weeks! Looking forward to having the sound back up when I play tonight after work.

Textbox weirdness:
On the Galaxy map, when you edit the notes for a system, if you change the name of a system, you cannot then switch to the lower 'notes' textbox.
The old "Cursor disappears and cannot highlight text" bug is still there in the 'notes' textbox as well.
The "Narrow Search" filter textbox works correctly, but the "Broad Filter" has the same issues as the "Save Game" textbox (see below).

The "Save Game" screen filename textbox has a few issues.  Backspace deletes the entire name.  Cursor keys (and Home, End, etc) do nothing to move the cursor, nor does clicking anywhere in the textbox.  The Paste command replaces all text.  Cannot highlight text in order to copy.

Lobby textboxes appear to be working correctly.

That's what I see so far.
