So you're seeing these higher-mark-than-the-planet starships in place right after the game starts?  Not just roaming in afterwards?

In my case, right at game start.

Also, since guardians are disallowed on planets next to the homeworld, can the same be done for starships?

I can confirm i saw that on my last game too, the mk1 planet next to my homeworld had 10 fleetships and 2 starships, felt a little mean to face a flagship mk3 and leech mk3 1 minute into the game, but i thought it was as designed since i chose 2 technologist AIs. I was playing with champions and got a reclaim immune bonus ship so in my case it was just fiiiiiiine.

I'm seeing them at around 20 minutes or so, but lemme get back on producing a trail for you.

Out of curiosity, is it intentional for the AI to send mostly flagships at you during Fallen Spire exos?

Quick edit: By "mostly" I mean "more than 20 on each planet that spawns them."

The Flagship fetish is more of an emergent thing.  But considering the effectiveness of munitions boosting, it works out ;)

Ah. Also, on the topic of stuff spawning too close to homeworlds, I had one particular game where a Raid Engine spawned right next to a Mk4 world that was bordering my homeworld.

Ow.

Just curious, are Maws still supposed to attriction damage units they swallow?

My Maws are doing plenty of swallowing, but no actual damage.

On closer examination and investigation, I think my starship issues are/were probably actually raid engine issues.

Yes, a Raid Engine, especially on a high mark world, is about the only thing in the game that I treat as an at any-costs target.

My current game had a Raid Engine 2 hops out from my homeworld on a Mk IV world. The very first attack I made was a transport with a cap of Mk I Fighters, Bombers and Flagships on a one-way trip to destroy it.

On a single HW start, that is a lot of resources to throw away, but that is how dangerous I consider a Raid Engine.

As AIP was 10 when I triggered the single wave it sent at me, there was only a single Starship present so I did not have a lot of trouble fending it off.

For those wondering why I sent so much in, the Guard Posts in the Mk IV system were positioned so that the Transport would not survive to deliver my ships to the Raid Engine, I sent the Flagships along to kill the Raid Engine and the Fighters/Bombers were there to keep the Flagships alive long enough to do so.

The first time I saw 69 flagships in an exo I panicked. Then it was explained to me that their attack boost is best-boost-only, not all cumulative :)

It's not just spire exos - the golem exos do the same thing. I've managed to prepare for and beat (some of) them now that I know what's coming, but it still feels a bit weird.
