Excellent patch, and the detangler more or less addresses two little nitpicky mantii that I've had laying around for a long time. It is also amusing to watch it work. Nicely done!

I actually think you should by default keep it in the rotation, and if possible, have it spawn the first time someone unlocks VotM or updates to 7.0
Interesting :)

Well, we were planning to just leave it non-default, but what to people think?  Do you think the new title screen would be a better impression on a new player than the normal title screen?  If they're not a new player then they can just choose, but the new ones are where we have a chance of just losing them outright before they take the time to figure such things out.

First off, I appreciate the change occurring so fast. However, fading the entire image makes it look like a... faded image. What about taking that glare and doing something cool with it, like put several thousands of Neinzul ships coming from around that planet? It would block out the glare somewhat, mediating the retina issues, and sort of give it an artistic reason to exist. You could motion blur the ships a little as well. I understand, however, if that is a bit too much work. You could also use that space for a shadowy logo, though there are enough logos in play on the right side of the screen already.

I think it would be OK in rotation as well, as something that just shows up now and then. Is there a possibility you can construct it similarly to the random screens? That is, as a series of separate elements overlaid on a background? You'd have the asteroid field broken into sections, the planet in its place, and the starfield. The individual pieces could move very subtly, producing a neat 2D-motion effect that's congruent with the main menu.

Or just the simpler method is fine! Yep, just givin you more grief there Keith, but overall what is already there is pretty decent as it is.

Hello, all. New user here.

Love the game, currently doing a game similar to that one "Contradictions and Silliness" [having issues with H/Ks]. But nevermind that.

I...think this is the topic to post this.

In my current game, the AI spawned a Core Starship as part of an exo. There's a little typo in it's description.

"Advanced alien technology makes this a lightning-fast death machine. Boosts the strength of nearby ships.." <- Two periods at the end.

Thought you ought to know. Just a minor, little thing I noticed.

as a confirmation; the turret controller things are per planet caps.. right? By design?

Why hello there!
Hmm.. I've seen Core Starships dozens if not hundreds of times and never noticed that.

Yes. They're like mini-fortresses that way.

that seems ... kinda strong. as in, I'm in the middle of a multiplayer game where we have 200 mk5 needlers on every single planet. (and recently added lasers)

I know youre giving up the entirety of the mk1/mk2/mk3 caps, but it seems for the moment that they are completely irrelevant anyway.

Yeah. In the earlier versions the controllers gave you much smaller numbers per planet, but you could stack them with the normal turrets.

The new model is weird.

And awesome! They are basically a no-downside irreplaceable ... that then protects itself! :D

Those ideas, as well as working pieces of it into a random sort of thing, would all be worth pursuing if we had the raw materials to do so.  But what I was trying to communicate earlier is that we don't have the bits and pieces of the image.  We just have the image, as you see it.  The glare can't just be neatly removed from that without messing up the rest of the image, etc.

Basically, we're still learning how to work with art contractors in our new approach, and we didn't realize that this one wasn't working really large and scaling down to the target (like the artists we used to work with would).  And it didn't occur to us how important it would be to have the intermediate formats that we're used to submitted along with the final.  That latter is generally more expensive, so even realizing it we wouldn't want to automatically request it, etc.

All that said, the image will be useful for various marketing purposes which was Chris's main goal for it.  As for the title screen... well, we'll leave the option there, but off by default.  For the rest, well, it was a learning experience :)

I should add that I really do appreciate your frank feedback as it was obvious to me that you were specifically trying to not be mean/offensive/etc, and we do need to know when something isn't up to snuff.  Doesn't mean we'll always agree, and generally we look for more than one source of a particular complaint, but anyway.

Yea, this was basically "you say it's too weak?  How about this?" stage of the core turret controllers' lifetime.  Basically I wanted to make sure that the basic idea was definitely, incontrovertibly strong enough, and then pare down a bit :)

It's basically like the Blizzard school for game design. "Inferno mode seemed to work fine in-house, so before we shipped it with the game we doubled all of the stats of each enemy to make it as hard as we wanted it to be. Probably."

Oh no, the core turret controller thing is nothing like that :)

That's Dire Guardians.

Well, I very much meant the balance approach of 'make it really possibly overpoweredly strong, and then tone it down to a reasonable level later.' It's just that Inferno took forever to get that adjustment. ...Is it bad that I now want a superfortress controller? Per-planet caps of mini-superfortresses.
Also, Dire Guardians terrify me and I know at some point I'll have to let them into my house but I'm scared. Their numbers are big. =(
