AI War Beta 6.039 "Carrying The Combat " Released!

This one is relatively small but contains the last new bonus ship type of the expansion, a few important changes to Showdown Devices, and a few less-important-but-still-nice other changes.

That last bonus ship type is the "Neinzul Combat Carrier", which is a light combatant starship that can also build any youngling types you have unlocked.  It also can always build a new unique type of youngling called the "Shrike", which is a fast cloaked raider-type ship sure to better enable humans everywhere to annoy the AI.

This is a standard update that you can download through the  in-game updater itself, if you already have 4.000 or later. When you launch the game, you'll see the notice of the update having been found if you're connected to the Internet at the time.  If you don't have 4.000 or later, you can download that here.

Oops ;)  I looked back through a few priority list areas to see if there was anything major but didn't actually go back through the last release thread and wanted to get this one out before it got too late tonight.  Anyway, yea, am meaning to change those soon.

I thought there was talk of making the neinzul combat having an "internal" neinzul reg chamber? If I got the wrong impression sorry.

Well having both carrier and their drones belonging to the same control group is awkward. I would like to have a toggle that the neinzul combat carrier's drone do not spawn and "automatic" assigned to the combat carrier's control group. Is that possible?

Hmm, yes, that's true.  I just forgot in the process of implementing it; I can try to add that maybe tomorrow.

Spec Forces Alarm Post bug is mysteriously fixed between this and 6.034... so good if unexpected, since I hadn't gotten around to providing the save/br till now and updating, though I'd been following detailed notes.

 There seems to be a problem with map generation always giving the AI the same ships. I have recently been playing a bunch of level 9-10 games with some gimmicks to make it fun and the AI always has some combination of gravity drains, blade spawners, tackle drone launchers and bombards. I figured it was just random loopiness so I went ahead and made 20 games this morning to test this out. Settings were Maze A, 40 planets, level 10, hybrids, easy golems and spirecraft, 2 homeworlds with one being corvettes. Results are number of games out of 20 the AI had those ships:

Gravity drains: 15
Tackle drone launchers: 10
Blade spawners: 8
Bombards: 7
Shield bearers: 4
Munition boosters: 3
Others: none more than twice

It happens occasionally, but I don't know anything in particular that causes it. AI War has a 3 clocks in it anyway, thats half of what I use the overlay for :)

For the rule of cool, can the devastator have some ammunition that has more...oomph to it?

Well overlay is usable now...

Also changing Tiger from shell to energy bomb does mean one less ship type being unable to hurt bulletproof fighter, so yeah...

To clarify: if the steam overlay is not working in the beta versions then this is a critical problem, as we want the betas to become the new steam official in less than two weeks :)  So please don't just drop vague comments about it not working, actually tell me what's going on :)

Yea, the ammo change isn't just cosmetic, but that was the main reason I did it.  I think the Tiger and Commando were actually using the same ammo previously.

So last night, I was hunting down the last few CSGs, preparing for my final assault on the homeworlds.  Only the D network remained.  However, there were only two D generators in this galaxy.  One on a core world near me (5 hops), and one on a core world very far away (11 hops).

On the Core World near me, I found this:
