I found YET another issue with counterattack post making one too many hops. Savegame attached.

http://www.arcengames.com/mantisbt/view.php?id=11057

I didn't see a problem with the save you posted on mantis.

The CA Post is a MK II so it can strike out up to two hops.  Tried it 3 times and always had it choose Rare, a planet within 2 hops from an AI warp gate.

Edit: Popping the gate on Murdoch puts MK II CA Posts out of range (closest gate being 3 hops out at that point) and it warps to an unknown location.

Opened your save. My computer wept. Switched to the ST planet and ship icons filled my screen, so I zoomed out. Game told me that it _was_ totally zoomed out. You could seriously walk from one end of the inner grav well to the other without getting your feet cold.

One time I a popped the counterattack mk 3 post. It picked a fight with my fallen spire capital ships + 5 golems instead of attacking behind susaic system where there are not much to worry about from AI perspective. I don't think there is a counterattack post mk 3 left to test that again.

So for some strange reason it did not pick their target system very well.

Edit: Hmm odd I just tried again after finding another mk 3 counterattack post. It must have been 6.018 version when it happened.

Strange, I'm not seeing a "Beta Available" in game, but my version is definitely still .019...  And when my g/f updated from an older version it updated her to .020...

Same thing happened to me a few versions back. I had to download the patch manually.
How to manually update the game? (http://www.arcengames.com/forums/index.php/topic,7657.msg67798.html#msg67798)

I just reverted to 6.0 and then re-updated, that seemed to work.  Thanks for the tip, though.

So, other than message and log spam, what does the new NullPointerException do to your game? Does the AI stop reacting for a bit, or is it sort of "harmless"?

It causes it to stop reacting for a bit and if encountered basically disables the retreat behavior on those units because it can't get to that part of the code.  If it's happening _a lot_ it may impair overall AI behavior but it's not going to stop waves or reinforcements or whatever from happening.  I am planning to hotfix it but had some other stuff going on.

Oh, OK good. If it did something like knock the whole AI out until reload, then I would of waited for a fix. But since it is a transient thing, I will probably go ahead and upadte.

Update: 6.021 hotfix to fix a bug in the AI-retreat-behavior "fix" that was causing errors on the AI thread.

Man, I seem to keep running into annoying bugs with hide unexplored planets... just my luck.  xD  (Mantis here)

Also, the Plasma Siege Cannon MkIV is still missing it's graphics; dunno if you are aware of that or not.

Um, are you sure Cloaker Starship is actually immune to mines? I'm playing 6.021 and one just blown up because it ran into minefield (and its immunity tab doesn't show that it's immune to mine)

Yea, it would be only partially retroactive.  But yea, your many lives lost due to that rule have led to successful science ;)

As a quick question, I'm doing the "Allies Under Attack" scenario (where you defend the Eridani, Grey Spire, and Shattered Pillar against Sorrow's Fang and Neinzul Astrids). I decided to upgrade the slicer drones for the scenario, thinking they'd be a good all-around unit. However, most of them seem to be plain stupid --- they decide to go after the bases rather than the actual units spawned from them. In particular, they target the Astrid bases, even though their champion is closer to the Shattered Pillar side. So not only do they have next to no health when they get where they want to go, they would get slaughtered by the bases regardless.

Not the most useful unlock choice, IMO. Is this normal? Possibly they pick their target when they spawn, and there aren't enough ships --- some do seem to attack the ships, though I'd estimate 90% of the time it's just they passed through it on the way to their doom. But even still, why pick something the furtherest away?

Or are they just playing Ride of the Valkyries too loud [1] to make sound tactical decisions?

[1]: Alternatively, they watched LEEEERROOOYYYYY JJEEEEEENNNNNKKIIIIINNNNSSSS and thought "BEST. PLAN. EVER."

edit: They will attack ships that are in spitting distance when they spawn, but after those are dead, they still strap on their helmets and "CHARGE!" passing by other perfectly good ships along the way.

Slicer Drones have always been like that.  And, I have complained about the way they target since AS beta.
