Maybe Keith was that one guy who was in charge of the AI and he was like... nah, with the three laws, they won't obey my directive to dominate the humans!

Galactic Emperor?  I've already got too little free time to play games, thank you very much! ;)

It's kind of an wrinkle for the three laws, though: brutally slaughter human players, because that's what they paid for.

They simply redefined "human" somehow. Or were never programmed with the three laws in the first place. Or they knew humanity was about to destroy itself with the civil war, and fell back on the third law to break the tie. Or they really are benevolent. Or the conflicting program directives of AI on opposite sides of the war caused program lock. Or simply that murphy's (technically Finagle's) law holds.

ALL of Asimov's robot books were about wrinkles in the three laws.  ALL of the robot series.

They simply redefined "human" somehow.

Happened.  One of the Foundation books had that.

Or were never programmed with the three laws in the first place.

Also happened.  Well, two-and-a-half laws implemented.  Was one of the stories in I, Robot.  The book, not the movie.

0th Law actually.  There's a book on that, too.  The idea was borrowed for the (crappy) movie I, Robot.  And justified poorly there.

Also nicknamed the 'Inevitable outcome of proper logic' in some places.  I, Robot did well enough for what it tried to do in 2 hours.  A single Robot story from Asimov can take from 8 hours to a week and a half, depending on how deep you want to go in it...  :D
... and then we'll have cake.

What part is an inevitable consequence of proper logic?

The destruction of humanity, the zeroeth law, or crappy movies based on Isaac Asimov novels?

Hence the addition of a law that the AI will never make a movie out of a book.  Inevitably, it does not end well.

It waits for me to do something to fix it, then acts like it's working perfectly, until I look away ;)

What part is an inevitable consequence of proper logic?

0th Law, I believe.

I, Robot did well enough for what it tried to do in 2 hours.

As a movie it did "pretty well" for 2 hours, but was not Asimov.

0th Law.  Any process of pure logic meant to protect us will eventually come to the conclusion that if it doesn't bubble wrap the human race in individual wrappers it'll kill itself.

0th Law.  Any process of pure logic meant to protect us will eventually come to the conclusion that if it doesn't bubble wrap the human race in individual wrappers it'll kill itself.

Notably only two robots in the original books ever executed actions based on the 0th law, and the first one still shut down due to the uncertainty of whether or not his actions would benefit humanity in the long run.
