the major energy problems come from a single homeworld/no planets. I cant support as many starships as i can spam knowledge on.

I can spend two systems worth of energy easily enough

Beyond 3+ systems, its usually not an issue. The only reason losing one system's worth of energy is a problem is because many other completely undefended systems are also rapidly lost after that.

"Fixed a bug where line-place would try to pack things in too closely on certain angles, which would lead to every other spot being skipped."
This has not been fixed entirely. It seems work better though.

Hrm, something's less precise than it should be then, I think.  In general the game's not so great for supporting an optimal packing situation ;)  May be something else I can do, though.

Well, from my last game I'm not sure.

9 planets controlled, 1 Energy Collector on each, no Metal Converters anywhere.

Fully constructing my fleet and all defences leaves me with an energy balance of 120,000, less then a single energy collector.

Now, I do have 5 Mk I forts on my defensive line and those are notorious energy hogs, but at 9 systems I should have the energy free to support forts without issue I think.

This is single-HW.

Do you use starships? They are quite the energy hogs. Using forts and starships and fleet ships and turrets should strain your energy in almost any stage of the game..
Life is short. Have fun.

Yes, I'm a big fan of starships.

In my current game that I just started, going with starships as my main strike force.

Having said that, mini-forts are not immune to translocation apparently. Just faced a Shadow Frigate with a Translocator module, my mini-forts are now off on the edges of the system.

See that fort off at the top edge of the system? Probably the best way for the AI to deal with it actually.

Odd, I tend to have hundreds of thousands of energy left over after 9 planets, on single homeworld. I dont tend to get fortresses though? I dont think that would make quite as much difference though.

Well isn't that cute.  Fixed for 5.091; thanks for letting me know.

You mean 5.091 right?

On the Energy issue, I have 30 planets and about 11 million energy on a 4 homeworld game. But I do run out until I get the first 3 or 4 planets going, and I have run out late in the game when my Spire fleet starts to explode in size.

For lack of a time machine (and proper numeric memory on my part), yes, you're correct ;)

Yea, if you take 30 planets you basically shouldn't have any significant resource problems, unless you're building some serious superweaponry (like a FS capital fleet).  And generally you won't survive taking 30 planets on a reasonable difficulty unless you have said superweapons.

Would you say it's impossible to hold 30 planets on 7/7? I mean, anything below, it's obviously possible, but I still totally haven't gotten back around to AI War yet so I don't know enough about 7/7. If each planet is 20 AIP, and you have 30, every 5 is a hundred. That's in the neighborhood of 600+ AIP which is... just around enough to barely survive?

Not if you have an FS fleet.

You can hold 30 planets on 7/7 even without Spirecraft or Golems.

I wonder if I could hold 118 planets against 7/7

Opened your save. My computer wept. Switched to the ST planet and ship icons filled my screen, so I zoomed out. Game told me that it _was_ totally zoomed out. You could seriously walk from one end of the inner grav well to the other without getting your feet cold.

30 planets = 10+(29*20)=580 AIP, probably reduced to 400 from various sources, so not too insane on 7; on 8 or higher that's pretty dicey.  And if you had to take any significant AIP from over-time or other structures during the process of getting those 30... not friendly.

118 planets, you're talking over 2000 AIP, that's going to require limburger and/or superweapons even on 7 :)
