Just wanted to touch on why there are 2 AIs from the Lore side, because I thought it was really cool:

So humanity was fighting a war against itself.  And there were two sides.  They built massive AIs to run their armies.  Apparently no one had seen Terminator.  Surprise, surprise, the two AIs decided to join forces and just remove the pesky humans.  Hence, there are two AIs that are often different because they were built by two different groups of humans.

Ah I always love game lore. And this makes perfect sense!

What was the human conflict about though? Was there an ideological difference, or just a standard power struggle?

And why are we destroying 'Data Centers' when obtaining data/knowledge is so important?

About the stars thing, you do actually get one cute little star in the middle of the Dyson Sphere if you zoom in on it.

My headcanon has it as a standard power struggle. The game intro scroll just says 'civil war' so it's pretty vague.

I think the logic behind this was the Data Center term came from our current data centers around the world that house the servers run the internet, so destroying the Data Centers in game was equivalent to destroying the records of our activities by destroying the location where said activities were recorded, effectively making the AI 'forget' what we have done.

In part anyway, the AI has backups of course.

I actually originally thought that each AI Type was a specific "character" in the AI Universe, somewhat like the Robot Masters in the Megaman games. I considered that one has not actually won a game of AI War until each and every AI has been taken down.

This is probably because of the Trailer wording: "...you must kill these subcommanders without alerting central proccessing..." I now believe that tat refers to the smaller scale AI logic and the Global AI, but I used to think referred to an omnipresent yet unseen "Main AI". (possibly residing beyond the Exogalactic wormholes)commanding even the various AI Types which are housed in the Home Command Stations.

I kind of like it better like that, but that's just me.
I can already tell this is going to be a roller coaster ride of disappointment.

I'm actually really interested in AI War lore, oddly, even though that's far from the main focus of the game.
Also, I seem to recall reading about an idea I think Chris had about an expansion that possibly took place versus what was sort of the 'main AI' as some kind of super-campaign or something. It was somewhere on the wiki, so, bonus points to me for being REALLY specific. That's something I'd love to see, and I almost thought at first that Ancient Shadows was going to be like that. Then again, if we do fight the nerve center AI and win against THAT on 10/10, that brings about an entirely new problem... if it's supposed to be that hard of a fight, why is it possible to win that on 10/10?

As far as I've understood it, the AI is a distributed artificial intelligence. It is not omnipotent, because the amount of data that would need to be stored in every single node would be enourmous. Instead, each "part" of the AI network knows different things, and this data is shuffled around to SuperTerminals, DataCenters and CoProcessors. Kinda like Google's cloud servers. One Youtube video might get uploaded to one server somewhere, and then slowly get distributed to the rest of the cloud from there "on demand" so to speak.

Taking out these key structures disrupt the AIs workflow and de facto knowledge of things, and therefor AIP goes down.

This is probably because of the Trailer wording: "...you must kill these subcommanders without alerting central proccessing..."
The trailer looks outdated and confusing. Good thing I was bored and tried the demo (long time ago before I bought AI War). It should show actual gameplay and tell about the game more clearly. Also the game description should include the lore text from the main menu.

Oh.. and if someone makes a new trailer remember to turn down the nebula intensity slider so people new to AI War don't get scared.
