I'm sorry, I can't hear you over the sound of this 10,000 unit CPA knocking on my door.

 ;)

But yes, looking forward to starting a game from scratch with everything that's changed as it looks like things are settling down on the 10/10 tweaks front.

I think I started my current game in version 5.053? It's made for some fun times. (Hello starships, what's that? You just dropped me into energy blackout?)  ::)

I think 10/10 is actually fairly close at this point (in the next version) to where it needs to be, though I'm sure our resident cheesemasters will find some way of breaking that illusion ;)

We are already way ahead of you :D

I don't do this all the time, but I regularly host 7 difficulty co-op games of 4-5 players on the weekend. Say, two weekends a month? We've even started to crank up the difficulty a little bit now - 10/10 spec ops was a total failure, but 8 was -possible-.

I try to mess around with different themed games for variety, and try to balance out the difficultly of the factions somewhat.

The one concern I have with difficulty 7 is co-op related. It varies from someone not warp gate raiding, to warp gate raiding before sufficient scouting is done (hello mk 4 raid engine two hops out!), to taking on a mark four system too soon, and letting it pour into nearby systems. My current group is fairly stable at this time of year, so those rough edges have been mostly smoothed out, we don't even need teamspeak to coordinate as much any more.

Once the expansion is final, however, and/or people have a lot more break/holiday time, I expect I'll need teamspeak again, and I expect to see a lot more mark four waves hitting me. Especially if the AI starts with Etherjets or the like. The shakedown should end up rather brutal.

I do kind of wish that on exactly AI 7 or lower (not 7.3+) raid engines were force a little further out (3 hops), and mk IV worlds (2 hops). It'd make mixed skill games a little easier to start up, while still maintaining a level of interest for the more experienced teammates. Now personally, and with a basic level of familiarity (say, 2 or 3 weekends of play), Mk IV worlds and the raid engines where they can currently spawn is entirely fine by me. I'm personally entirely fine with existing placement... and to be honest, I kind of enjoy the catastrophes that occur early in the game when someone stirs up the hornets nest.

In singleplayer I'm still sticking with 7/7.3 but mainly because I'm trying out all sorts of factions and features old and new (current masochism- advanced hybrid hives with defensive AIs, particularly Gravity Drill).  Once final release hits, I'll probably try to kick it up to 8 permanently.

BTW, how frequently do people gate raid? I'll only do it in very rare circumstances (HW-adjacent world that I cannot yet conquer, a single world being the only warpgate for many of my planets, etc).

I do a lot of it because I like single chokepoints and skipping lots of planets.

I do it quite often.

Oddly enough, hardly ever.

However I unlock warp jammer command stations to achieve the same effect, so maybe I 'gate raid' quite often?

I usually play on X style games with fallen spire... I usually take all planets within 3 hops radius (I start at the edge of an x) and then knock down all but one warp-gate to make all waves come from a specific wormhole so I don't need to spread my turrets (any border agression is dealt with by fleet/fortress). Other than that,,, No warp-gate raiding and I do tend to have very high AIP. Though in my latest game I had a botnet golem, a 10/10 Dyson Sphere and Super Terminal all within the local cluster. I let the DS gather strength, then I popped the AI terminal and let it roll on for quite a while (Ended up managing to kill most dysons). I used a Penetrator to kill the terminal about the time where the dyson's wouldn't be able to keep the swarm back. Total AI reduction? 250 or something crazy like that... If I didn't have the dyson to aid I'd be toast (not to mention the penetrator) waay earlier :)

I guess I just don't see the chance of a wave appearing on my planets as a threat worth 5 AIP...

So you handle all waves with a mobile force, and spread out your turrets to support your mobile units against waves?

10/10 can still be won without cheese and I don't think the ship cap change in the next patch will change that. It will affect the player too not just the AI. I will probably win the double 10 Special Forces Captain game next weekend.

....

edit; just looked at changelog:

All fleet ship caps have been adjusted to be multiples of 8 (generally by rounding down, unless something was 1 away from the next higher multiple, in some cases), except for those fleet ships which don't change caps at different unit cap scales.

This involved about 5 metric tons of relatively minor changes to health, attack power, metal cost, crystal cost and energy cost. Mostly health and damage didn't change by more than 1% in either direction; m,c,e costs vary a bit more but nothing earthshaking. The numbers are internally arranged in a much better fashion now which should help with other changes going forward.
The main immediate benefit of this is that the ultra-low-caps setting no longer impacts the balance of fleet ship types whose caps are not multiples of 8, because, well, they are now.
Turrets still need to be done, of course, but I've had enough swimming-in-numbers for one day.
Thanks to Hearteater and others for the suggestion.

...

I look at that and see tons of work (Human Spire Maws get a 60% dps per cap buff :D) and that all of the "Pseudo-Starship Fleetships" now look a bit less like starships.
A programmer had a problem. She thought to herself, "I know, I'll solve it with threads!". has Now problems. two she.

Yeah... I dont play with devourers. One of them once ate my entire starship fleet. I couldnt rebuild the entire fleet for hours.

It was really annoying.

The change-log is looking epic. I say this is going to be the third most epic patch of AI war ever! :D

Are you planning on it to come out tonight, or do you need one more day to "cram" everything you want to get done in it in there?

Those special forces may surprise you, even without the special-forces-captain part ;)  I haven't seen a 10/10 win since they were made more interesting, though it hasn't been long.
