Is there a way to replace the new backgrounds with the old ones? Or manually download and install the "AI War Beta 5.043-5.044 A Dubious Honor" patch? I don't think there was anything wrong with the old backgrounds. I liked them.

Just taking another look and the new planets look great.  They definitely stand out a lot more.  Just one question:  Did the planets always rotate?  Can't say I've ever actually noticed if they did or not.  The planets always seemed to blend into the background before.

Upon firing up the Kraken with the new v5.045 installed, I immediately noticed something very different before my eyes. I might be losing my mind, but it would appear that some gratuitous PI elements made it into the atmospheric mix.

Very nice!!   :D

The visual improvements are quite a welcome addition thus far to aid in immersion. Not that I'm complaining about anything...don't get that idea.  ;D  I'm getting fired up about the release with great curiosity.

I don't think that's what Chris had in mind when he did it, but it's the first thing I thought of when I saw a partially cracked planet in the background (which is actually one of the planet graphics we had been using in a different size).

But I don't see how it would facilitate a planetcracker in the game any more than the nuke already is, because it's purely a background element ;)

Also, how cool would that be if that destroyed planet in the background was due to a super weapon… it's just too perfect I can't stand it.

I dunno how the game would even accomodate what you're looking for: for it to be a foreground object it can't be larger than a 1024x1024 pixel square, and we've already got a few ships that size.  To actually have a planet in the foreground that you can blow up... I dunno how it would fit :)
