Quote from: Prerelease 5.043 Release Notes
Special Forces Guard Posts no longer count as reinforcement-warp-gates and are no longer autotargeted (by player or player-ally-minor-faction ships).

What about enemy-to-all minor factions? IIRC, human marauders will also try to take out special forces guard posts.

Maybe Mark III turrets can get the 1/2 range dampening, and Mark II gets 3/4?

Sorry to be a bother, keith, but after updating, AI War now refuses to launch.

I'll put up log files if you tell me where to look for them.

On a Mac, using Snow Leopard, if it helps.

No bother, sorry it's causing problems.  For log files:

(ai war directory)/RuntimeData/ArcenDebugLog.txt
(ai war directory)/RuntimeData/UnhandledErrors.txt

And on windows the third one is at:
(ai war directory)/AIWar_Data/output_log.txt

but on mac I think it's at:
(ai war directory)/AIWar.app/Contents/Data/output_log.txt

Thanks :)

It works fine for my Mac running 10.7.4.

ETA actual OS. Forgot I had upgraded recently.

4k seems like a bit much,  we don't want to make turrets super safe. ;) But bumping their radar dampening to range - 2k might work well, especially if the basic turret line got a bit of a range buff. (they could use it)
Sorry Techsy, didn't ignore this on purpose yesterday, was just distracted.  I wouldn't mind seeing the Basic get a bit of a buff but I wouldn't want it taken far enough that it gets considered for a K cost boost on upgrade.   However, a few things.  One, these are MK II turrets, so a bit of 'safety' is desired in one form or another.  Second, these turrets will usually be placed at optimal range so that they're JUST outside their dampening buffers from the wave edge, so they can encapsulate the majority of the inbound wave.  They won't be safe for long unless there's a lot of other things going on.

Quote
Waves tend to get so big, especially in higher difficulties, that surviving an alpha strike is pretty much a binary yes or no (unless you are something ridiculous like a superfortress or an armored golem, and even they will start feeling some good pain from a focued alpha strike). This is sort of an unfortunate consequence of how the combat mechanics work. See 3174: The problem with golems (and other large ships/structures) for discussion about how the absurd number of units the AI can use cheapens health and survivability to this sort of "binary" survival effect, even for large stuff and defensive stuff. It's not quite the same topic, but many of the same issues involving alpha-strikes insta-gibbing things cheapening things apply there as well.
One of the things in that Mantis was fixed.  One of those was the reinforcement costing mechanic that Keith debugged and repaired caused a lot of 'big ship reinforcements' to be far too unexpensive and throwing off the unit counts.  However, I agree, large ship survival IS binary.  It's a result of 3D in a 2D, and assuming there's always 'gaps' a ship can fire through and can thus Focus Fire any damn thing you choose... so can the AI.  I believe the concerns for Black Widow in recent balance passes (the auto-paralyze) will also remove a lot of that concern, basically making it the Armored that's the only one constantly getting flatlined as an ultra-heavy.

The third one is actually way off somewhere else on the Mac.  For reference: http://answers.unity3d.com/questions/9014/where-is-the-outputlog-file-on-mac.html

So it should be /Users/YourUserName/Library/Logs/Unity/Player.log

Intriguingly, the first two log files mentioned, I couldn't find at all.

The third I did, but I'll only post the relevant stuff, unless you guys want to go through a bunch of TF2-related things.

I'm tempted to put on the latest update, see if it somehow does any good, but yeah, I'd need a way to download it outside of AI War.

Ricca: it sounds like perhaps something is corrupt.  If you verify your steam cache, it will reset you to 5.000.  Then you can use the in-game updater to get straight to the latest update, and hopefully all will be well!

Partly worked. Reset it back to 5.000, but now the autoupdater tool refuses to run.

I responded to your PM, but for anyone else following along you need the following link: http://www.arcengames.com/share/AIWarAutoUpdater-osx.app.zip

Downloading that and replacing the existing AIWarAutoUpdater-osx.app that Steam gives you will fix the permissions, which currently don't get set correctly.

Thanks!
