Indeed, there are very few other games in which losing is as fun as it is in AI War.  I don't feel like I'm losing, because I get the impression that I'm improving in a meaningful way for next game.  Ever since I started really challenging myself in AI War over the past few weeks, I've realized my critical thinking skills, calmness under pressure, and micromanagement ability have all skyrocketed, and it's really helped me to focus in other, easier games I play as well.

It's kind of like when runners train in high altitudes (or for anyone who watches DBZ, Goku training in 100x Earth gravity) - when I go back to the regular tasks they seem simple in comparison.

Keith,

While you are looking into targetting fixes, can you also look at:
Now I know this is probably too many to deal with one patch, but all four of these issues are quite annoying.

Thanks. :)

EDIT: Oh yea, and 3844: Ships in FRD not always regathering at FRD point
Sorry to dump all these on you, but these 5 issues, along with starship knowledge costs, are my big "pet-peeve" issues in the game right now.

Wait what's wrong with Starship Knowledge Costs?

I've seen no thread or mantis report about that.

Confound it, I was going to start a new game to try out some of the variable strength minor factions, but then you had to do all kinds of awesome stuff (including some much needed AI buffs ;)), so now I want to wait for the next version.

Keep up the awesome work. Arcen is probably the only company that regularly produces updated I want to keep up with. :)

About the new entry for the new, awesome looking ability for Enclave starships
Quote from: 5.036 Release Notes
Despite the fairly massive buffs Neinzul Enclave Starships received not long ago there's still been a lot of feedback that they're overwhelming and that they don't have a lot of point. Well, now they can build lots of little sharp points that will really annoy the AI for you, and they're the only way to build them.
But this is also not so powerful that you have to do turret research or even use the enclaves at all, it's just making it nicer if you do.

Was "still been a lot of feedback that they're overwhelming and that they don't have a lot of point." supposed to be "still been a lot of feedback that they're underwhelming and that they don't have a lot of point."?

Btw Keith, with this new Enclave change, I think you should remove the MK2 Enclaves from the Merc Space Docks.  Even at 10x the cost, that's an extremely powerful ship, and really gives the player no reason to unlock the actual thing.

Or you could leave the old MK2 Merc Enclave alone, and not give it these new "bonus youngling types" that the unlockable MK2 Enclaves are getting.

I just played an entire 8.3/8.3 + Advanced Hybrids game without ever upgrading any of my fleet ships to MK3, using Enclave ships to reinforce my army the entire time - without ever having to spend a dime on research.  With this new bonus, it seems too powerful for the Merc ships to get the new buff as well.

Just something to think about.

Correct :)

@Wingflier: perhaps the mercenary one does need to go, but I'll leave it for now.

Fair enough, we'll see how it plays out.

Now that AVWW 1.1 is not due until next week, any chance of getting an AI War 5.036 release soon? Many of us are anxious to try out these new Neinzul drones and to torture ourselves with the AI buffs.

If not, that's fine, but I hope you don't mind me asking.

Not complaining, your priorities are sensible and sound, but AI War fans wait patiently.

Most companies don't release updates for weeks, or months...sometimes never.

I know we've come to expect constant updates from Arcen because they always have, but we shouldn't.

It's reasonable to expect Arcen to update their games regularly, or intermittently, partly because it's what they've continued to do, and partly because it's what makes them unique as a company. It's practically part of their mission statement, and it's part of why they retain their customer base.

Now, take a look at the latest update report so far, and tell me it's unreasonable to anticipate the next update! Arcen's employees themselves might roll their eyes at the occasional foot-tapping post, but as a company it must be seen as a positive that there is demand for their product!

Or the overly polite equivalent of MOAAARRRR!!!! ;)

I personally am looking forward to it but that's because half of it's my fault!   :o

MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!... errr.... wait.
... and then we'll have cake.

Keith, any more changes/fixes you are planning to stuff into 5.036, or is it pretty much ready to go?

It was all ready, but between that time and the time that Chris would have had a moment I came up with some other stuff I wanted to pack in there, so Chris is back to waiting on me :)
