AI War Beta 5.024, "Carrier Rules Of Engagement," Released!
« on: February 06, 2012, 12:44:00 pm »
Original: http://arcengames.blogspot.com/2012/02/ai-war-beta-5024-carrier-rules-of.html

This one has another big batch of fixes and tweaks, on a variety of ships and parts of the interface.  Some welcome changes to the Plasma Siege Starships as well as the Spirecraft Shield Bearers, for instance, as well as Spider Turrets.

The biggest bunch of changes, however, is to the AI Carriers: how you're options work for targeting them, what happens when too many of them get destroyed on one planet at one time, and so on.  Lots of player feedback really helped to shape these changes, so hopefully these are ones that work out well in practice.  As always, let us know what you think!

Enjoy!

This is a standard update that you can download through the in-game updater itself, if you already have 4.000 or later. When you launch the game, you'll see the notice of the update having been found if you're connected to the Internet at the time.  If you don't have 4.000 or later, you can download that here.

We'll hit that nearly-daily time again with AI War, but at least it's getting more frequent than it was for a while there, heh.  :)

Oooooh, shiny!  DIE CARRIERS DIE!  I'll be testing out your early explosion carriers shortly... maybe.  Hm, I'm not sure if I really want starships popping in my tazer lock.

Hrm.  Nice option!  8)
... and then we'll have cake.

I'm not sure we have a sufficiently devious smiley around here.

Awesome, will try it out as soon as I get home.  :D

Hopefully, someone will have tested it by then and reported if there are any game breaking bugs. ;)

Thanks for making a long time cutsomer feel special.  ::)  :P

(P.S. We need a better roll eyes. Or rather, one roll eyes for "annoyed" eye rolling (which is the current one), a different one for "silly/mischievous" eye rolling, and yet a difference one for "sarcastic" eye rolling (what is meant for my above statement). Geez, western culture has placed too many overloads on the eye rolling facial expression.)

The eye roll is not very useful. Especially the one on this board's graphics. It looks less like someone rolling their eyes and more like a long-suffering saint in a medieval painting. The tongue is for "I'm being completely silly and a bit of a smarty pants." The big grin is for "I'm being silly but slightly serious." The regular smile is for "I'm being serious but I'm smiling so you don't feel bad about it." Does anyone remember the days when people used a g in brackets to indicate a grin, <g>? Whatever happened to that?

When <g> became an HTML tag, thus using it would confuse comment systems that didn't properly filter HTML tags?

This is impressive, you guys are really keeping on top of the ai war updates. Things are happening again. Sometimes it has seemed as if Chris really wants to get away from AI, and maybe it's because things get tough around here when the rules change, but it's your best product. I know you as a company want to diversify your product line and keep yourselves interested, but your AI players haven't moved on yet. I think there is still more potential yet with this game.

A lot of people play this thing and dissect everything about it to the nth degree, and I hope you agree that it's a whole lot better than if nobody cared whether or not dreadnoughts suck. Right now, they still do (I still have to try the new patch), but we haven't given up yet refining it!

The features list is slowly piling up, and while I still have plenty of personal goals for the current version, I see no reason not to check in and keep up on the changes in the galaxy. Anyone who is a reader here truly understands the game in a way most people won't.

Remember, if you will, that as time passes, the average user's computer becomes more powerful. You may, taking half-year-long breaks now and then, keep adding things to AIW without fear of overtaxing our magnificent future PCs.

I'd keep paying for further expansions, anyways. Hell, I'd be the first in line to donate if that's what it'd take to keep you updating the game now and then.

Just don't let the game with the best AI in all of gaming down  :)

I'm pretty sure their goal is to get at least two good games they can alternate between, which would prevent them from getting burned out, and prevent us for going nuts with endless patch-a-day changes.
