AI War Beta 5.011, "Nuclear Science," Released!
« on: June 21, 2011, 10:08:10 am »
Original: http://arcengames.blogspot.com/2011/06/ai-war-beta-5011-nuclear-science.html

This one has kind of a hodgepodge of fixes and tweaks that players have requested.  Several of them deal with warheads, and there's also an added interface for finding science labs in the galaxy map, so hence the nametag of the release.  This also fixes a scoreboard issue with defender mode games always showing up as losses, and a couple of exploits that clever players found.  Enjoy!

This is a standard update that you can download through the in-game updater itself, if you already have 4.000 or later. When you launch the game, you'll see the notice of the update having been found if you're connected to the Internet at the time.  If you don't have 4.000 or later, you can download that here.

I totally did not expect the Galaxy Layout feature to make it back in so quickly, because I hadn't seen either of you even mention working on it until a day or two ago, and then with all the AVWW stuff...  Well, I'm happy.

Oh, oops, I completely missed that line in the release notes!  Yeah, Keith snuck that one in there.  All of that was Keith's work, so kudos to him! :)

Yeah, he just kind of casually said something about it in passing on (I think) Sunday, and I figured we wouldn't see it until weeks from now.  Who knew?  I've been hoping for some sort of layout overhaul for a few of the map types for a while, so I'm pretty ok with that.

I left out the pull-in-chains function that used to be possible via alt-click because it was doing some crazy stuff, but not sure how many people used that anyway.  Tried to keep it simple this time :)

Awesome update.  Now I can finally play tree or spoke maps without being utterly confused by the layout!

Nice!

Did you make any performance tweaks in this version? My save game loaded MUCH faster in this version.

EDIT: And the art loaded MUCH faster too.

Must be a coincidence on the performance! Nothing new on that here!

I was wishing for something like the Galaxy Layout, but how do I get at it? Binding the Galaxy Layout context menu to LeftAlt+M or Leftalt+C didn't work for me (these worked as M and C on Galaxy Map, respectively). It's probably a case of PEBKAC on my part, but I'm stuck.

You don't actually have to bind anything:

1) Go to the galaxy map (not planet view).
2) Open the context menu (alt-right-clicking empty space should work for default bindings; I think middle-click also works but that may be a custom binding of mine).
3) Click on Galaxy Layout in the top-level context menu.
4) Click on Alternate Layout in the Galaxy Layout context menu.
5) While holding shift, left-click-and-drag planets around.
