AI War Beta 4.066 Released!
« on: January 13, 2011, 12:59:46 am »
Original: http://arcengames.blogspot.com/2011/01/ai-war-beta-4066-released.html

Polish incoming. As promised, this one is mostly about bugfixes and balance tweaks.  The biggest group of rebalancements is in the Fallen Spire campaign, which now has to cope with largely-immobile forcefields (even moreso in this release).  Fortunately, with some shifts to the Shards themselves, that problem should be handled -- but let us know what you think.  As sort of a sly concession to the desire for mobile forcefields, the range on the riot starship shields has gone up rather substantially.  So that's one other option for the shard retrieval teams, too.

Zenith Beam Frigates got a major rebalancement, Raiders got a minor tweak.  The higher level siege starships now got the intended buff that is equivalent to their mark I brethren.  The AI will now be allowed to have half the prior number of Spire Blade Spawners, Spire Maws, Spire Stealth Battleships, and Spire Tractor Platforms per guard post.  Minor factions, zombies, and AI ships that have not yet "settled" are no longer subject to the recent "AI ships won't move when under a forcefield" rules, which fixes a number of issues where far too many ships could stack under a single forcefield, etc.

Other than that, it's a lot of other smaller tweaks and fixes reported by players.  More coming soon, especially now that the main bulk of my work on the Tidalis Lite beta is through (at long last).  That's a free web-based version of Tidalis, and we think it's seriously cool -- check it out if you haven't seen it yet.  Enjoy!

This is a standard update that you can download through the in-game updater itself, if you already have 4.000 or later. When you launch the game, you'll see the notice of the update having been found if you're connected to the Internet at the time.  If you don't have 4.000 or later, you can download that here.

And as I go to auto-update, I'm greeted with the #1 Tip of the Day - which was mine! :D You guys set the bar for excellence...if I haven't mentioned that before.

AI War and all the trimmings is really one sparkling production, and I've been spreading the word in my travels. I did play the web demo of Tidalis and it's truly awesome. I've been out this month cause I got sucked into Unity and my only regret is that I didn't do it much earlier. I have one suggestion for the player, though. I've only seen this done once, but you can strip that Unity loading page and have your logo and stuff there instead...that is a nice touch. I can envision your logo against black with possibly another color for the loading bar...but that is just a suggestion.

Looking amazing, gents! Now I'm off to lose some more hair and sleep (again)! :D

Cool!

I got a question, before I bug report it.

I recently attacked a planet next to a Core world to have a staging point to one home world. I lost my entire fleet. But... I got 500 resistance fighters that wiped teh floor with the AI on the planet, including the Super Fortress (Fortresses did not shoot the resistance fighters).

Then after that planet was free of AI (I ninjaed the command while resistance fighters did their job) the resistance fighters went on to the core world, and then the home planet. This made threat go up to between 2000 and 3000, all more or less Mk V ships. Suffice it to say my defences was not prepared for this ammount of AI ship since my main fleet was just killed off and I had not been able to rebuild it yet.

So... should resistance fihgters set off AI ships like this

Might be related to http://www.arcengames.com/mantisbt/view.php?id=1838 where zombie bots were upsetting the AI and waking up a Dyson Sphere as well.

I'm still trying to work on the game from the save I uploaded there, but now I've got angry AI and a lot of spawned gatlings right in my path... it's messy.

My understanding is that resistance fighters and marauders don't fall in the "must never cause increase in threat" category of minor factions because they don't show up on planets with no human presence.  The other stuff like devourers and dyson gatlings have to be basically incapable of increasing threat due to their being potentially off in some remote corner of the galaxy.  That's why those ships can't damage guard posts or command stations (except for the AI-Ally version of the dyson gatling, haha).

The resistance fighters and marauders still don't free AI ships nearly as easily as human ships do (human ships free them by firing upon them or often simply by being within firing range or 11,000 range, whichever is shorter), but if they destroy a guard post or command station the AI ships will naturally be freed.

Excellent stuff! Can't wait for it to be released! Are you guys doing another sale when LotS comes out?

I imagine we will, here, but as for Steam and other partners, I'm not certain of what their plans are.  I imagine there will be some sort of sale, somewhere, though!  Probably not on LotS itself, though -- we tend to discount the base game and/or other expansions in this sort of event.

Great jebus man! The entire AI War saga is still far cheaper than your average game and has tons more content to boot.

Don't be so cheap and let the man be able to order some takeout every now and again.  ;D

P.S. This is morphing into the best scifi strategy game evah.

Can't wait for the steam release of LoTS personally - I would have bought it already but I like having all my games in one place on steam (and want to make sure my code doesn't get snapped up - Also it's kind of fun to wait and see it get all polished through the patch notes before trying it out).

I only use steam becuse its a nice alternative to a physical disk  ;D

AI war I perfer to have a separate copy off, and teh fact the steam refuses to let me download Neinzul since I got key, but have not bought it via steam, but arcen.

As a semi related question. Will arcen use google checkout in the future? :)

As far as I can tell there's literally no difference between the steam and non steam version. When I ordered LotS I got a key and put it in my steam version and it was ready to go. I believe the game actually downloads all the content regardless of which version you have and the keys only unlock it. Thus why you can play trial modes of everything. It's not like it needs to save bandwidth by not downloading a lot of giant 3-d models or anything.  ;)

Now if only I could survive long enough to see what the fallen spire is all about...

PLayed a game yesterday (last patch I played was 4.064).

The game seems to have become several steps harder, which is cool. I however seem to notice that fabricators and mk4 fabs are seeded a lot different than before and I am not too pleased with that ... it also makes the game harder .. but I want my bonus-ship ....  ::)

I hope for the sake of your childern you dont have them or you do not raise them as you write games ... "hey kids, look daddy bought you a bike .. the no seat or peddels is just so you enjoy it more" :D

ps: I tried the 30min defender (trial) mode on an 80 planet x-map taking 12 starting planets .... nasty nasty nasty stuff  8)
