Disabling Harvester Autobuilding?
« on: December 26, 2010, 02:04:15 pm »
So I'm new to the game and having fun (v4.054), but I can't figure out how to disable automatic harvester building. I'm establishing forward bases (often temporary) which are heavily contested or insecure (force fields keep the command center safe), but the AI still comes through regularly and takes out the harvesters. I might be making a net positive income, and I could unlock exo-fields to protect them, I know, but is there a way to just disable the harvester autobuild on certain planets?

I have the sense I'm missing something obvious. Thanks.

I don't think the player can disable that behavior currently. If this is something you want to change, you can open a ticket in Mantis and people can vote on it.

I don't think you can; the automatic harvester building is done whenever a planet is free from hostile ships.  To be honest, you don't lose much resources from them being destroyed--more than usual do they provide a tactical advantage against the AI when it's roaming around your planet in most cases.

Glad you're enjoying the game~!
I'd take a sea worm any time over a hundred emotionless spinning carriers.

I know that the game engine supports it, as auto-building of harvesters is suppressed for certain parts of the tutorial. However, there is no UI option for doing so. But as others have mentioned, harvesters are really cheap. Their effect on your economy will be very short lived.

Dunno about this but has anybody else noticed a frustrating bug which prevents you from assisting a harvester while it's being built?

This has been happening to me in my current game.  A harvester gets destroyed and takes the full 2 or 3 minutes to rebuild, but the engineers just sit beside it like they are trying to repair, preventing them from performing other tasks in the system until the harvester is fully built (by itself).

Yeah, I've seen that as well. I had a cluster of engineers all sitting there within repair distance of two flashing green harvesters, but doing nothing. The odd thing is that the HP increase rate of the harvesters seemed to be retarded as well. It took a long time for the final 1%.

I've seen the same. Engineers just sit there while harvesters get rebuild, usually not helping. (Uploaded a savegame in the other topic where it can easilly be seen.)
