AI War Beta 4.029 Released!
« on: November 05, 2010, 04:23:10 pm »
Original: http://arcengames.blogspot.com/2010/11/ai-war-beta-4029-released.html

This update has a goodly bit of stuff in it.  First off are a mix of bugfixes and balance tweaks for both Light of the Spire and the base game, most notably relating to bomber starships and turrets.

Secondly, the first version of the Fallen Spire minor faction for LotS is now in there.  As we've noted in the past, this is one of the major anchor features of this expansion, and it's sort of a scripted sequence of events that you can go through to achieve... well, that's secret.  At the moment, only about 10% of the events are in place, and only a few of the new specialized ships relating to this story-based minor faction are in place, but a lot of groundwork is done for how to create the rest of the events and ships related to this.  This one is really exciting, but we're being careful to avoid spoilers on what the actual events entail.  Stay tuned on this one!

Lastly, four new core AI guard posts have been added for LotS:  Booster, Cross Planet Attack, Heavy Beam, and Raid Engine.  All four of these basically add variety to the end-of-game scenarios (most specifically the CPA guard post is wildly different), which has been a long-term goal for the game for a while now.  Because of the comparative rarity of AI Core Guard Posts (they only show up on the AI homeworlds), we won't be adding too many of these in this expansion, though -- more focus will be going into the regular Guard Posts (mark I-V) that show up on all the AI planets randomly, as variety is even more critical there (in one sense).

This is a standard update that you can download through the in-game updater itself, if you already have 4.000 or later. When you launch the game, you'll see the notice of the update having been found if you're connected to the Internet at the time.  If you don't have 4.000 or later, you can download that here.

Looks great. To be clear, unlike the CoN core guard posts, these new LotS core guard posts will only appear in games started with LotS active?

Who else out there gives us almost daily candy, tell me, I dare ya!
Your fans are gonna get fat you know that, fat cheeks from intense daily smiling  ;D.

But it balances out with the fact I'm losing weight because every time a patch is released, I push the update button then dance for 20 minutes before jumping into the patch notes.

Thank youuuuuuu  :D.

PS: patch notes says "Laser Turret base range from 6000 to 9000.", it turns out in-game they actually actually have 12 000.

'base range' is modified by +3000 usually.. it goes a ways back really. AI war has a TON of old modifiers that were placed there for some reason over the years.......

I suspected my ignorance had something to do with it, my apologies and thank you for your input  :).

I like the nifty quest I am on now (running with fallen spire on). Not sure where it will lead yet, as I gotta consolidate my power first :).

I think that the 10x health on the AI force fields is a tad much, takes my bombers ages to get through it, even with 4 Mk I bomber starships present.

dont be silly, its only 5x health.

And until you have the resources to pull bigger guns out, a raid starship is more effective than youd think >.>

Hmm, just thought I read 10x and did not check my own FFs vs AIs FFs :).

Still, 5x means the Mk I AI FF got about the same ehp of an Astro Train Station :). I am not too worried about the units under them due to raid SSs, and other ways of killing them. But actually removing a FF is a big job early in the game. ;)

Maybe an uneven scaling for the MK levels?

maybe forcefields in the planets adjacent to the homeworld get a minus handicap when controlled by the AI.

its because of... sabotage? yeah, lets go with that.

I think itd be interesting if instead of +hp, while there is no player supply, the forcefields had armor (somewhere around 200k ... possibly more >.> it has to be enough to deter siege starships too!)

then by creating supply, they get dropped back to no armor, making them considerably easier to break.

Do force fields get some special bonuses in multi? Mark I's had 54m hp.. and it was going insanely more for later marks ;)
