It's just been in this specific beta version, and most people don't watch their scouts as their scouts do their business, so I'm actually surprised it was caught this fast!  That's fixed for the next version, but until that comes out tomorrow I suggest only using mark II scouts and above to avoid what you're seeing in those saves -- that's definitely the cause of that aggression.  I'd put the release out tonight, but I'm in the middle of some other stuff that isn't quite baked yet, and before I finish that I need to go crash...

mark V fighters! its a dream come true..  :)

I think leech starships could do with a review, they seem much more powerful/useful now that most AI reinforcement takes the form of capturable ships... mark IV worlds in particular can be incredibly profitable

I havnt looked ingame yet, but the AI FF got a 5x buff and the players didn't? even though the player gets the 75% damage reduction? baaawwwwwwww :(

Only if you try to build them all at once. Letting them trickle out over the first hour or two of the initial game works just dandy. Haven't seen the new numbers yet but I'm still betting just turning on the factory and setting a single mk I engie to assist it should still work and not totally wipe your income. So if they really want to discourage mass use of mercs they need to up each units energy cost too as that is still the same as a normal unit. ;p

Yea, mercs used to have intense energy costs too, iirc, but were dropped by popular demand.  Perhaps they should be re-upped to 5x the normal so you can still have a chunk of them but it's a bit more costly.

Or would you still be capping them out at that? ;)  I guess if one gets a ZPG early on, balance does take a hit.

I put up a ZPG as soon as the last warp gate is popped that connects to the homeworld.

This is usually minutes into a game with a suicide bomber force so yeah I tend to have quite a lot of extra energy as soon as I can get it online..

Especially now the ZPG has been returned to its rightful glory of providing 400k energy. \o/

Hrmmm, I really like the merc units so maybe if you feel mercs are a bit unbalancing early game you could drop them a mk level instead?

They were still very useful to me when they were only mk II but then again the infinite ship cap certainly helped there.

Even mk IV ships die fast to a couple of thousand of each merc unit. ;p

I never really used the merc en mass. I tended to have a small detachment at my home systems as reserve forces. I was loosing regular forces and starships left and right anyways and had to build them back again for the most part :).

The new costs for some of the mercs was very steep I think tho, considering they do actually cap out now ;)

Mercs are mostly meant to be used only when you've already capped out everything else and need something to sink resources into.  Having them be higher-level gives them an alternate function for when folks want an expensive way to get mark IV ships, which I'm quite fond of, but I think that in the prior versions it was a bit too attractive of a prospect. ;)

Wut?  This is like the first time I heard of "Hidden Fun Stuff," only there's no wiki to tell me what it is.
