AI War Beta 3.719, "And There Was Much Rejoicing," Released!
« on: October 19, 2010, 06:52:36 pm »
Original: http://arcengames.blogspot.com/2010/10/ai-war-beta-3719-and-there-was-much.html

Copied:

Today's release is perhaps the biggest bugfix release we've had by far.  The three biggest issues on people's minds are all now fixed: the "Network host initialization error," the "Access Denied: Could Not Get Cursor Position" error, and the clunky-feeling (compared to the SlimDX version) zooming.  We also fixed some bugs from the prior version where a few directly-placed structures couldn't be built.  Huge day!

As if that wasn't enough, there are a number of eagerly-sought balance shifts relating to starships, hybrids, guardians, and anti-starships.  The balance there should be more refined and more fun to play with.

I'd planned on having this release out 6+ hours ago, but these zooming issues literally took me all day, and a few hours last night.  What a time sink, but the result was worth it: the scrolling feels better than it ever has in the past, and if you don't like it you can customize it much more closely to your tastes than in the past.  We're hoping to be able to blow through the relevant items out of the remaining 225 open issues (and whatever else crops up and is relevant) much faster in the next couple of days, but Keith's extensive work on the crash errors and mine on the zoom handling were time well spent, I think.  We're suddenly much closer to release-level quality.

This is a standard update that you can download through the in-game updater itself, if you already have 3.701 or later. When you launch the game, you'll see the notice of the update having been found if you're connected to the Internet at the time.  If you don't have 3.701 or later, you can download the windows installer for 3.711, or the OSX installer for 3.712. Once you do an in-game update, they'll both be on the latest version, despite starting at slightly different versions.

Much love on the zooming, if it is fixed.
I'd take a sea worm any time over a hundred emotionless spinning carriers.

Rejoicing, indeed!  The zoom issues are fixed, and now I can play again without the annoyance of a broken zoom!  Huzzah!

Wow, this release has fixed the building bug, has more responsive zooming, the crash on computer lock bug fixed, and even has left and right modifiers being treated the same!
There was much rejoicing indeed! All hail the ARCEN developers!

Is it intentional, that the mkII force fields are smaller than the mkI ones?

your Home forcefield is no longer a real mk1 forcefield - its tooltip/name should probably be changed to reflect that (if it hasnt been already, ill should check)

Sadly for my timing your builds are usually when the night starts... so need to go to bed (should be actually in bed already but had a good book).
Bug fix list looks.... long :)
Keep up the good work :D

The incremental zooming is the best thing ever...since like...color was invented.  ;D Before it was popping in and out like smacking a paddleball with my poor and quite ancient Logitech Marble+ trackball (heralded by some as the best trackball ever made...and then scrapped by Logitech many years ago). I saw the reports about the scrolling, but I thought it was on my end due to the extreme nature of the freakiness I was witnessing. Alas, we have a new system...

The changes are awesome thus far and things are coming along quite well. I still need more lengthy testing time, but nothing horrible has come up worth noting yet. I'm still bombarded with star density on quite a few screens...I'm not sure if this intended or what, but it's some thick stuff out there for sure!  :D

That scrolling bug was R E A L L Y irking the living spirit out of me, though. Great job on that polish!

I'm overwhelmed as I went from 3.1...something to this in one fell swoop!

One minor issue I have found is that unit selection doesn't always make the click sound. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't, and I keep finding myself double-checking to make sure I picked a unit and didn't miss clicking on it.
