AI War Beta 3.716, "The AI Pacifier," Released!
« on: October 16, 2010, 01:05:06 pm »
Today's first release is a small one, but filled with critical fixes.  In the prior release, players were lucky if they survived to the 7 minute mark in new games because of some bugs that were causing the threat to skyrocket after the 1 minute mark.  Those are now all fixed, and the game should once again be playable-without-losing-instantly.  Along with that, we also redid the rules for how border aggression works, making it much softer in the early game, while ramping up more heavily in the late game if the players are parading around with massive numbers of ships.

On the other hand, in the last release there were a number of things also holding the AI back for established savegames, which made it too wimpy.  The AI wasn't launching waves, for one thing, but for another the new guardians were a bit tamer than we'd hoped.  These have also been corrected.

There have also been some changes to the costs of a couple of turrets, making them not all suck down crystal so heavily, and those window-order issues and related crashes should largely be fixed now.  Another release will be coming later tonight.  Enjoy!

This is a standard update that you can download through the in-game updater itself, if you already have 3.701 or later. When you launch the game, you'll see the notice of the update having been found if you're connected to the Internet at the time.  If you don't have 3.701 or later, you can download the windows installer for 3.711, or the OSX installer for 3.712. Once you do an in-game update, they'll both be on the latest version, despite starting at slightly different versions.

Hmm, seems the turret ship cap turned back to their old numbers again?

I can make ~200 very powerful turrets now ;P

Ah, found it. Still was a bit more then I expected. I guess you were referring to the (new) normal unit cap in the notes? While I had the old normal mindset still ;)

Why is the zooming out sensitivity much higher than zooming in?  I'm having a ton of difficulties because I want to zoom out in the same incremental sens as zooming in--I zoom out completely with one scroll click.

Also, a bunch of menu overlapping issues with the descriptions.

I'm also confused with the SHIFT/CTRL/ALT rebindings; what would need to be changed in order to reflect the same controls seen in AI War 3.0?  I tried rebinding a few of these controls, but apparently it hasn't worked--I try to queue five units on a space dock and it either a) clears all of it, b) queues only one.

Lastly, windowing out will leave the last key active, and upon windowing back in it will still be active.  ie. alt-tabbing out = alt still active, and thus I accidentally placed group of five engineers.  This was not a problem in 3.0.
I'd take a sea worm any time over a hundred emotionless spinning carriers.

Please use the bug tracker:  http://www.arcengames.com/mantisbt

That issue is already in there three times, we just haven't gotten to that yet.

Also, a bunch of menu overlapping issues with the descriptions.

What version are you on?  That should have been largely fixed in 3.716.  Though if you're hovering over a different ship in the main game window, not one of the buttons, then what you are seeing is correct

I can't remember all of them offhand, but they are in there.  It's probably overlapping with some other binding if you're having it do something completely unexpected.

Lastly, windowing out will leave the last key active, and upon windowing back in it will still be active.  ie. alt-tabbing out = alt still active, and thus I accidentally placed group of five engineers.  This was not a problem in 3.0.

FYI, it's a bit silly to say that something wasn't a problem in 3.0, as that was an entirely different game engine.  This is a bug in unity, it's in the bug tracker, the release notes, the list of known issues, and a number of forums posts.

I added that as a permission.  I didn't realize it would let you edit ALL the unresolved bugs, though.

id generally agree it seems odd that I cant edit my own ones by default.. Shouldnt be too much of a problem, I'm assuming that most people wont be vandalizing the bugs page >.>
