AI War Beta 3.711 Released, Remaster/CoN Music Released!
« on: October 13, 2010, 12:56:58 pm »
Original: http://arcengames.blogspot.com/2010/10/ai-war-beta-3711-released-remastercon.html

Copied:

This release is just a bugfix version that resolves some important issues (including a crash bug in the prior release).  There will be another release tonight with actual new stuff.

However, today is already exciting because the long-awaited release of the remastered music -- and the new Children of Neinzul tracks -- is today!  We haven't managed to put together a new installer yet, and some folks with the game already installed just wanted a zip archive anyway, so that's what we've done.  Download the music bundle zip file here, and simply unpack it (with directories intact) into your game folder.  Pablo has really outdone himself with this one, and we're very excited to be able to share it with folks at last!

This is a standard update that you can download through the in-game updater itself, if you already have 3.701 or later. When you launch the game, you'll see the notice of the update having been found if you're connected to the Internet at the time.  If you don't have 3.701 or later, you can download the installer for 3.711 here.

Of random note: How hard would it be to make forcefields player colored?
Not the unit, the actual forcefield bit...

Grey players with grey units and grey force fields? I can see that going very poorly. Same with players who choose red as their color and have a red-planet in the background.

I always choose red, because the color sticks out very well.

But really, I wanted red forcefield circles :p

Hey, company and folks!

This music is absolutely fantastic.  :) :D ;D

You guys should release a soundtrack after the CoN/4.0v goes live,
it could help a little your company and hopefully further spread the love for the game.

PS: I would like forcefield colored by player colors too, though not necessary.  :)

Having the force fields colored by player wouldn't work right, because of how the diffuse colorization works -- it multiplies the source color by the diffuse color, and thus if your color is red, for instance, any white pixels in the force field graphic turn red.  This is different from a hue shift (which can't be done quickly on hardware), which would give the effect you're actually wanting.

Glad the soundtrack is a hit, and it's definitely on iTunes, Pablo has full rights for the stuff with the soundtrack, so that's his stuff to handle. :)

:( ohwell
On the other hand, the music is amazing - really captures the AI war feel, yet is unique to a style; like the previous sets of music.

Though for me some of it's a hit-and-miss; not regarding his talent, but rather that I'm only into exclusive genres like ochestral, but in overall it's wonderful.

Glad you enjoy the music. :)

Interesting tidbits:

- Obviously, Pablo performed all the keyboard stuff himself, and most of the non-keyboard instruments were laid down by him using the keyboard, too.  Few surprises there.  However, you may not know that he also did the few vocal parts that are in there.

- Also of note is that the brass and electric guitar parts were performed live on those instruments (not by Pablo, though he obviously composed those parts).  That's why the electric guitar in particular sounds soooo much better -- because now it's the real thing.

Chris is right!

The trumpet parts were playing by Elizabeth Thompson, and the electric guitar was played by Ted Hardin, both very talented musicians.

With this bundle comes my first big revision of the music tracks, but there will be more to come. Once I have the absolute final versions of all the tracks, then I will be publishing the soundtrack on iTunes. That will be all the remastered tracks for AI War: Fleet Command, TZR, and CON.

I'm glad you guys are liking it! If you have any musical qualms or questions, be sure to check out the music blog at:

Thanks again guys! I love my job, and I love the opportunity to share this music with all of you!

I've already converted all the tracks to 128bit mp3; am I permitted to post the link here?
