Heh, I was just being snarky.  8)

However, my real reason for posting: 4,825 Raid Starships?!?!?!?!?

What were you playing against?

Well, IIRC, NetHack has an optional support for basic save file tampering detection (you can turn it on via a compile flag, but most binary distribution ship with that flag off) beyond the default of deleting the save on death. I think it does it by basically encoding somehow the expected modified date in the save, and then checking that modified date upon load. If it differs by more than N milliseconds (some wiggle room is needed because of the time it can take to issue write to when it actually reaches the filesystem), it will flag the save as "save scummed" and reject it (or IIRC, with some other flags in place, lets you load it, but insults you for resorting to save-scumming).

Of course, this isn't that hard to get around, but it keeps easy attempts out.

As noted though, most binary distributions of it leave this extra layer off, as it would be surprising (in a bad way) to many users, but's it's there.

(Of course, here, it wouldn't be a compile time flag, but a per-game flag. But the same sort of concepts would hold)

If he doesn't mind him answering for him, he got that during the early days of the "wild roll" hacking logic, where there wasn't a cap on many of the size multipliers. In this case, he got several wave size multipliers in a row, then a spawn raid starships modifier. Thus, when the "burst" spawned, well, you can see how well that went. ;)

Now we're talkin'! I've been waiting for this one, you bet!  8)

Now let's discuss those atmospheric and weather anomalies I brought up about a year ago...   :D

Nah, though it was mentioned in the LotS Fallen Spire journals, we're not going over to NGC 224 ;)

this time

When do we get to start testing? I know we just started with this announcement, but, that's probably the question.

More than excited to see what new toys we get to play with. I'm kind of hoping for something that hits heavy armor, maybe some damage over time or applied damage over time. Also, maybe some astro train improvements (wouldn't it be great if we could get on the train, and use it like a transport, alter the path, etc.). You know, go off the rails on the crazy… :D

*deep breath and…*

Now my mind is just going off thinking of crazy stuff… And what about that arcade mode? How about some new AI taunts? You have more employees now, surely they would be willing to record some AI trash talk. And what about music? Do we get new music? I would like also a new sound effects for booming cannons on modular weapons. Something low frequency, some bass. I want to hear the cannons, not the loons! The giant ships, the spire is going to get jealous.  :P Maybe rework some of the gui menus (they are growing out of control). Improvements to the references page. Output showing what options we chose for a game to make action reports easier as well as load other people's set up. A named villain. Semi-rare enemies. Prizes for completing games, such as new skins, colors, or sound effects (nothing game breaking). Ironman mode.

When do we get to start testing? I know we just started with this announcement, but, that's probably the question.
I need to get the anchor feature to a playable state before I'm comfortable talking about it publicly, and any decent "this is what this expansion will have, concretely" list has to talk about it publicly (at least generally), and we don't want to take preorders without giving a concrete feature list :)

So we don't know when it'll be open for testing.  No more than a month from the original announcement; possibly significantly less.  Will depend on how implementation goes and how many snags or "it works, but it's nasty" issues come up, etc.

I'm not sure what you mean there; I mean, polarizers do more damage to high armor, but that's already in the game so I assume you mean something else?

maybe some damage over time or applied damage over time
We specifically talked about it when deciding on what bonus ship types to add, but DoT would really mess with the autotargeting logic (specifically, the "has this target already been overkilled once the shots land?" part of the logic) and the additional "cool" factor of DoTs doesn't rise to the level of our being willing to compromise how well fleets do without micro'd firing orders (in addition to various other pain the mechanic would involve).

Haha, astro train improvements have been on my list for quite a while, but they wouldn't be paid-expansion material since it's just refining an existing feature.  Whole new train types, perhaps, but until trains get some more general attention (and thus a wider group of people who ever play with them on) that would be kind of unlikely.

Yea, that could be a recipe for disappointment ;)  We've got some really cool stuff going into this, if I do say so myself, but there's no way we could make something that hits even 1% of the even-mostly-sane ideas y'all could think of in half an hour ;)

Definitely new music :)

The giant ships, the spire is going to get jealous.  :P
Iirc even that huge human ship is less than a quarter the size of a Spire DN or SD.  As you saw we're working on some big, powerful stuff, but the Spire SD and AI Mothership are about as big and bad as individual units can really be within the game's context; we're going in a different direction with these :)

That's all in the free-DLC category; specifics on the gui and reference pages things would be good when I have time, and some kind of setup-output is something I'll put on my standing list.

;)

I'm quite confident you'll enjoy it, but don't put too much effort into guessing what we've been working on ;)  Though it certainly didn't come out of a vacuum; as with FS I'm trying to scratch a bunch of longstanding itches all in one go, and I wouldn't have known about them without the months/years of feedback.

I assume that this new Expansion will cause us all to suffer in a new way. Will it include a "minor" faction like Fallen Spire or are you allowed to tell us?
I can already tell this is going to be a roller coaster ride of disappointment.

Considering the name "Ancient Shadows" i hereby officially declare that this Expansion will be most likely about one or several neutral groups that will probably fight Humans and the AI or are at least not allied to the AI. I'm thinking about exo human mercs and the Dyson concepts on a larger scale. If these third parties can be allied to the AI or the Human using certain actions, i dont know. The name just seems to indicate the original AI is less of a focus (for new things) in this one.

I would be really excited about an "independent" new faction that is hostile to both the humans and the AI.  I can imagine epic 3-way battles raging across the galaxy.  It would be even cooler if said entity had and could take over its own planets!

A third faction is already there. The ever-changing bastard Neinzul hives :P Those are incredibly annoying. But yeah, a third faction would be cool, but I'm not so sure the engine supports it.

It's not another FS, though I think there's a similar degree of thinking-outside-the-box :)

All this teasing is getting me stupidly hyped. I'm approaching the point where no matter what you do, I'll be disappointed due to pre-hype of epic proportions. xD

Yeah, we need to dial it back from that! Oops.
