It would be awesome if some planets were not controlled by either a human or an AI, but by a neutral 3rd faction.  It would be even MORE awesome if said neutral 3rd faction could battle and take over even more planets if you cranked its "settings" high enough!

Or even for certain neutral factions to actually have a high-level base of operations, rather than just sorta spawning from the nether...

If this teaser means that this expansion is going to be investigating the mysterious area of deep space that the marauders and rebel fighters come from, color me ~very~ interested.

And please, please let it have a capturable that makes marauders ships player buildable.  :)

Based on what I see and others have pointed out, that seems like it will be a feature. Draco noted that Space Docks can be placed into FRD mode, and the starbase in the image is in FRD. So unless it's going to be a mobile ship (which is unlikely given its nature, but it could be like a Fortress) then it will be producing some sort of ship. And only the human player will need actual ship-production facilities as all AI and minor factions simply spawn ships. Therefore I conclude that the Marauder Starbase that is in the image is likely under player control and will be producing units.
I can already tell this is going to be a roller coaster ride of disappointment.

In the tooltip it says the starbase is zero speed. Fortresses don't have zero speed.

A construction building that has guns but zero speed is in the game though, isn't it? ;) It could be another thing like that!

It's too bad humans can't go into hibernation.  Though to be fair, my friends and family say that I go into a comatose-like state when playing AI War ;p

Not to fan the flames here, but by "more details" we really mean "have things ready for preorder."  There's zero chance of us spilling the details on this until it's ready for preorder, because people jump to wrong expectations when certain keywords are used and we don't want anyone to be disappointed.  That way when we reveal all the detailed stuff about it, you can also get the beta right immediately and see it for yourself, as well as being able to preorder it if you like it.

That's the plan, but obviously we had to push it back a week this week because we had some interruptions last week.  I'm not sure which day next week it will be ready, but I just wanted to at least give our reasoning for why we're waiting on telling certain things, as well as how the timeschedule works out.  I don't want people to tune in Monday and then get disappointed if it isn't ready on that specific day or something. :)

Gotta up the difficulty if you're comatose when playing AI War... Otherwise the AI ain't doing its job.
