A Hunger for the Infinite and AI War
« on: February 15, 2013, 08:48:08 am »
I recently listened to A Hunger for the Infinite by Gregory Benford as a free audiobook on audible. It's a very short novella and I finished it in just a few commutes to work. Interestingly it reminded me very much of AI war. Humans have been thoroughly whipped and have to make raids through wormholes against the Mantis (ie AI.). They even have a Devourer Golem and reference sacrificing members of the resistence to make raids to allow basically a deep strike. Anyone ever read this book?

Warning: The book is very dark, philosophical, and most of the similarities occur 2/3rds of the way through; however, it captured the feeling I get when I am managing a small fleet in AI War deep in AI territory and am moments from getting squished under the AI heel...I need to play now.
