Just to make what others have already pointed out crystal clear:

The installer nukes your serials.

If you, like me, don't have a clue where you have a copy of the serial numbers, you might want wait for an update.

To all having an issue with the serial numbers: restart the game after plugging them in. It solved it for me.

The new UI visual direction is very interesting, I look forward to seeing that develop. It's also really cool to not have menus jump around in the lobby. Very nice indeed. I can definitely see one heck of a game coming out of the unity port.

Just a couple of things though. Where has the old building placement behaviour to place a single building and stay in placement mode by shift+left clicking gone? I understand the bindings have changed to be more consistent with ship construction, but I'm yet to stumble across the old behaviour in the bindings. Also, is there any chance a 'Reset to Defaults' button could be put in the bindings menu?

Thanks muchly!

When I tried running it, I was completely unable to select a unit with my mouse (draging box over units didn't select them).  If I selected it through other means, like hotkeys for the buildings, I could use and command them, but I couldn't just click on them. Also I couldn't figure out how to go back to the galaxy view, the keyboard shortcut just didn't work for me.  Then the game crashed for me and I had to close it through task manager. >.>

It does no such thing. Your old keys are right there in your folder, but you need to use the converter to move them over at the moment.

of note, am i the only one who thinks the new menus all look horrible? and the ingame ui.. *shudders*. pretty please tell me you are planning on doing a major overhaul of that sometime? :\

The overhaul is done, and I love the new look. No plans to fourth change the general look of the HUD. The resource bar and planetary summary, for example, are completely done. The main menu not so much, overall, but getting there. Mostly it's font positioning stuff that needs fixing on the in-game buttons on the bottom left.

Was the game lagging for you? I forgot that the "nothing gets selected underthe selection box" can happen when the game gets slow. Need to look into that. Can you post the crash data?

It does no such thing. Your old keys are right there in your folder,

Where in the AI War dir, what are the files called, and what can read them?

- The settings.dat/bak files appear the most likely candidates, but according to notepad they're full of strings of stuff that looks exactly like impenetrable gibberish to poor, oblivious me :D

Unless you mean the AIWarImportSettings.exe, I can't guess what you're referring to. And if that's the executable you mean, then I'm very much afraid it isn't working. Possibly because I installed the beta on top of my existing AI War installation, and fetched the AI War & Zenith Remnant serials through Impulse (I bought Children through you guys directly).

It's not a major problem for me. I'll find the remaining serial eventually, because I did save all three somewhere. I just can't remember where. But I'd be shocked silly if I'm the only one with this issue, and I'm guessing not everyone bothered to back up their serials (though I'm guessing most who did probably know where they put them...).

AIWarImportSettings.exe doesn't seem to work with the settings.dat from the impulse version unfortunately, but copying saves works okay.

When deleting units, will it be possible to just press 'y' again? It was so much faster ;).

Regarding the UI, I think the gray background on all my build/research menus are more visually obstructive than the old one, I liked the less distinct one ;).

Doesn't your preferred mail program/site support search? Just search for "Arcen" or "Neinzul" and it'll turn up.

i agree on both counts - i feel the menus on the left take up considerably too much room and are no longer as 'out of the way' as they were before.

Game seems to lag considerably in menus while toggling an option on or off (ie. show unexplored planets, AI factions), freezing for maybe a second and using up more CPU %.

Game was also frozen on launch on one occasion.

Lastly, how does one disable an expansion?  Ticking the box beside an expansion doesn't work.

(Picture corresponds to the freezing; game launches usually in a few seconds, that time it wasn't progressing.)
