AI ship I am most afraid of
« on: August 27, 2013, 07:59:18 pm »
Note this doesn't mean that it needs to be nerfed.

I'll start. Stealth battleship. These things are awesome. I love it when they're on my side, I reroll when it's on the other.

Raid Starships of any mark higher than II.  Somehow I always notice them for the first time when they are half a screen width away from my home command.

Gonna go for the obvious one here, H/Ks. I could have sworn I had a fleet about four seconds ago.

I'm not afraid of those.  I don't ever generate that much AIP.

Mothership. Unless I start right on top of that b***h, she snipes my entire fleet from across the gravity well and cripples me before I even get in range to fire on her. And that is WITHOUT her modules that turn on when I do get in range.

I guess it depends how you see these. I've tended to smash them every time I see one, because they get to say hello to my Fallen Spire fleet.

Yeah, I don't know why anyone'd be afraid of a mere Mothership when there's a ship 10 times as powerful out there...

Actually, the super dreadnaught and the mothership are about tied in terms of power and durability.

Of course, the cumulative strength of your fallen spire fleet, after a certain point in that campaign, starts growing much faster than the AI's response, to the point where by the time the AI will be sending out motherships proactively, the cumulative strength you have is much greater than the cumulative strength the AI has for its responses. (This is assuming sane difficulties of course. This becomes more iffy on, say, difficulty 10 ;))

H/Ks, especially when you don't notice they're there and they end up chewing up and spitting out your entire fleet.  They just have way too much dps.

Anti-Starship Arachnid GPs. I always fail to notice the damn things and run into them headlong with my Leet Starship Crew like a noob.

Oh I CAN kill the things. That's not the issue. At 8+ there tend to be multiples of them. And the issue is again, the RANGE they have. If they start off inside my range or close to it, then they get destroyed so fast that its almost funny. But in any situation where the Motherships can use their range to an advantage it tends to be a VERY hard won fight at best. Because they are rarely alone. I've had them shred nearly all the shields in my entire FS fleet before I was in range to attack them and between the Motherships and their escorts I lost my entire FS fleet. Sure I got the Motherships, even took out almost all the escorts. But losing my entire FS fleet is a HEAVY loss. Now add in the fact that they act as CSG, and put them on an AI HW with something like a Wraith Lance and that core post that acts like a black hole machine and gravity drill. The Mothership(s) is on the other side of the gravity well (because the AI hates me), and while it is battering my fleet so is EVERYTHING ELSE. I cant kill any of the Core Guard Post, leaving the Wraith Lance to shred my fleet. I can kill the gravity post that is slowing my entire fleet, but its still costly, and by the time it and the Mothership(s) are down I have lost nearly my entire fleet from the beating everything combined dished out.

Again, if the Mothership(s) are in MY range near the start of the battle, everything goes just fine. I make them the priority targets and let the FS fleet do what it does best. But any time they get to use their full range it becomes 10x harder to beat them. And they are smart enough now that they don't park on a wormhole so I can just jump in and smash them anymore.

I find myself greatly irritated when I find out the AI unlocked Eyebots.  H/Ks are definitely up there but usually you get warning that they are coming.  For me it would have to be Plasma Siege Starships. The higher marks have the HP to hang around long enough to kill your Home Command while being shot up and can be a lot easier to miss.  If you make a mistake, there's a good chance that you won't have enough time to respond to make a difference when you see that blood red warning in its window.  High mark Spire Starships can be scary that way too.
May the Force be with you.

And the Triforce too.  :D
