Does increased AI progress make the showdown event tougher?

Yes, it does- scaling about the same as regular waves, I believe.

I think the actual waves from the showdown are clamped at what they would be at 400 AIP; I don't recall off the top of my head if that applies to some of the other parts, though.  The CPA parts are just "what's in the galaxy?", though it's supposed to send roughly a third the first time, roughly a half (of what's left) the second time, etc, iirc.

Not really.  The Showdown assumes an AIP of 400, and raising it above that doesn't make the events harder.  Obviously, keeping it lower doesn't make the events any easier, either.

However, as Keith mentioned, the CPAs are based on what is currently in the galaxy, and as AIP goes up, the reinforcements go up, the Mark of AI units goes up, and the Special Forces and Strategic Reserve go up - all leading to more ships available for the CPAs.

Yep, one of the goals was to present a different sort of motivation than you usually find in the game (outside FS, anyway) : you may as well spend up to somewhere near that AIP, so what do you want to do with it?  As opposed to just always never spending more than necessary.

True, though bear in mind there's an AIP level beyond which the reinforcement rate doesn't go higher.  But the SF and SR and the mark level... yea, all gonna hurt.

Thanks for the help. I tried doing the event with 189 AIP. It did not end well lol. Also, during the cross planet attack part, do all the barracks deploy?

Heh.  I imagine not.
As for the CPA, there is currently a bug in the Showdown where the first CPA causes all the ships to deploy.  Otherwise, it only deploys up to the expected number of units.  And remaining sit around until needed later.

Oh, no wonder why 15K ships went at me including homeworld ships.
