Is it just me, or is the AI not using some ship types?
« on: November 14, 2010, 12:00:19 pm »
What the title says. I've played several games with 4.0, and there are some ship types that were very common in 3.0, but I haven't seen the AI use them at all in 4.0. Anti-Armor ships for instance. AI has never had them unlocked, the Eye never spawns any of them, etc. Could be the same with some other ship types too, like Raiders and Raptors, though I think I've seen a few of those, but not a single Anti-Armor ship, that's for sure.

I'm using Complex ship types for my games, so I'd imagine Anti-Armor would be included.

Just freaky weird luck?

Maybe it's the Eye then. At least that one never spawns anti-armors for me. Same thing with a lot of other ships, or at least they're so rare as to go by without me noticing. Raiders, raptors, space planes, infiltrators, deflectors... I can't recall seeing those coming from the Eye. I always thought the AI spawns everything, because it certainly does spawn more than what is unlocked right now. Just wondering why some ships are excluded.

Not that I like how the Eye spawns more than what is unlocked to begin with. It's a cheap way to see almost every bonus ship in the game. Oh the times in 3.0 when I had to start new games just to get to see or use new ships. Now the Eye spoils the excitement. *cries*

Maybe that should be a mantis issue - limit what the eye makes to the ships in that particular game so that there are no more "crying games" ;D

my current game features anti-armor in the hands of the ai

it also has raiders, and I've seen it spawn raptors from the superterminal.

Alrighty, so it's definitely the Eye at most. Considering that in one of the first Eye versions, I played against two defensive AI's, and they had an Eye on like 95% of their planets, and I didn't see a single anti-armor ship, raider or raptor in that game, despite constantly triggering the Eyes to spawn ships, the Eye is definitely being... selective.

I'd vote for the Eye to only spawn unlocked stuff though. Think I'll put that on Mantis.
