Greyed out ships?

Did a quick search but couldn't see anything that looked like my problem. Just playing a game on 5.043 and captured an Advanced Research and Fabricator (not sure if this is directly relevant) but for some reason a bunch of my ships have become greyed out and no longer shoot, go into free roaming defence or basically do anything.

What happened? Is this something that I have done? Ship cap? Energy is fine so I am confused. Help would be much appreciated.

Edit: Ok, it seems like I have 205 ships in stand-down mode but I have an energy balance of 151,000 (yes, 000; thinking that this might be the problem I built another energy collector but the ships which were greyed out have just stayed that way... )

If you did stand them down, you'll have to explicitly toggle them on again. there should be a pause/play button in the lower left hand corner after selection.

The hotkey for toggling stand-down on your selected ships defaults to K; I'm guessing that or the pause/play gui button (same thing, basically) was accidentally hit at some point

Ok, thanks to you both for helping out so quick. It would seem that random button pushing may well not be the best method to learn this game. Now I just have to figure out what to do with all that excess power that fat fingers have made me buy!

Ah, no, it should be fine.  It's even slightly less dangerous than learning Dwarf Fortress that way!
