What is the most chaotic maptype?
« on: November 03, 2012, 03:36:47 pm »
I'm planning to play a game that's all about chaos and lots of stuff happening at the same time after I finished my current AAR (which is a long way to go still, but I like thinking ahead), but i can't figure out what would be the best map type for this. Preferably a map that's both tough to defend and attack on, but just hard to defend is fine with me too. I'm thinking of crosshatch myself, maybe lattice. Any thoughts?

Definitely crosshatch.

Lattice is also respectably chaotic.

Spokes is one of the least.
If warheads can't solve it, use more warheads.

I meant Lattice, my bad. Fixed. Thanks for the feedback

Lattice is pretty rough, if you're looking for something not-crosshatch. (edit: ninja'd)

It is difficult to be both hard to defend and hard to attack in that "every planet has a bunch of connections" both makes it harder for you to defend and drastically reduces the number of hops to get to any particular AI target (including the HWs).  But generally "hard to defend" is more where the chaos can be found :)

Set Neinzul Rocketry Corps on 10, Wardens and Enclaves 6, Miners 5, Hybrids 4 and enable Devourer.
^^in addition to a chaotic map type for maximum masochistic satisfaction. Well not maximum but maximum that's still enjoyable.

I'd be curious to see how a 10/10 hyrbid game vs a 10/10 dark spire game would shake out.
Life is short. Have fun.

I suspect it would result in a Musical entitled "It Isn't Easy Being Hybrid".

I see what you did there.

well, the settings I'm going to play with will be much worse than this, but I'm keeping the AI's themselves relatively low. I want to find out whether the game is still winnable when the AI's can be pushed over, but the chaos is constant and everywhere.
As for the map type... I already have experience with the crosshatch so I think I'm going for that one. Lattice seems interesting, but I think it's wise to save that one for a regular game. Not that the first time I played crosshatch was a regular game, but that's because I had accepted keith's challenge without thinking carefully about it lol

Yep. It's a sorrowful tale of the fall from grace of the Hybrid.

10/10 Hybrids is impossible. There will be ~30 hybrids + few hundred drones in all planets adjacent to your home planet in about 10 minutes into the game.

Yeah, that is why I'd prefer Hybrids 10 affect maturity rate instead of spawning rate.  Maybe affect spawning rate a little bit.  If on Hybrids 4 their current spawning rate is 4 and maturity rate is 4, maybe a spawning rate of 3.5 + Hybrid_Setting/10 and maturity rate of 1 + Hybrid_Setting/2.
