Cross Planet Attacks
« on: April 22, 2010, 02:47:30 pm »
Was just reading through the wiki (slow day at work) and read a bit about CPAs that don't really fit with my experience in game. The Wiki states that for CPAs, guard ships across the universe get freed and follow normal attack/retreat logic. However, whenever a CPA timer runs out, many planet instantly spikes from 200 to  500-600 ships (depending on AI progress and difficulty of course), like the ships were actually spawned right there on the planets instead of being freed and travelling across the universe.

So, are the CPA ships already in game and being released, or are the spawned? Because it certainly looks like the latter.

The ships are released from planetary defense. So, if 1500 ships are massing for a CPA, then the AI will release a total of 1500 existing ships to attack you from their stations on nearby worlds.

I was just in the code for that yesterday.  They are existing ships released from guard duty.

On guard duty == not threat
Off guard duty == threat!

Wellwell, interesting. To me it pretty much looked like they spawned right on top of the planet, but I guess that was just ships coming in from other planets. Thanks, is good to know! (I know it says they get released, but I wanted to make 100% sure :D)

If any of those ships were teleporting, that could also explain it.  Teleporting ships move so fast that it could look like they were spawning when they were not.

Don't think there were any teleporters in that particular raid. But I was looking all over the universe and the ships may have entered the planet when I was looking elsewhere, making me believe it was at the instant of the wave announcement's end.
