A thought, not a full-fledged suggestion, on AI Home Stations
« on: November 26, 2010, 11:21:44 pm »
It seems to me that perhaps AI Home Command Stations are too delicate. The intention can't be for these things to die really easily, or surely they wouldn't be covered by two mark V force fields, but a lousy cap of mark 1 raid starships is enough to knock one out once the other posts are down. It's a tad anticlimactic, isn't it? It's also a bit too quick, as several of the newer posts seem designed to reek vengeance upon the player, but with the home station dying so easily there's no threat they'll actually get to be a problem. Maybe a bump to a few million, nothing too drastic, would be appropriate?

The thinking behind the Home Stations health reduction was probably that, if you've gone around destroying everything else on the planet (which can be extremely hard to do), the game isn't going to make killing the Home Stations take extremely long to kill (most likely because you may not have much left and have already invested a large amount of time).

However, the Raid Starships killing the Home Station is absolutely hilarious, and was probably just an oversight by the developers.

having core ff reduce the power of nearby lasers would help in that, if it was actually an issue.. but mostly you just end up making the home health 4x by doing that.

If your not going to bother taking down the ff anyway, like i end up doing, it doesnt really matter still..

And to think, I was actually taking the time to destroy the 2 Core FFs, idly tapping my fingers on my desk for 10 minutes while fleets of bombers and upgraded bomber starships slowly picked away at it, in vain!

Way to think outside of the box :P

Yeah, my thought was that if there are two core forcefields covering it, the intention can't be to be able to kill it in a matter of seconds with a few starter starships, right?

I'm thinking this should go in mantis.

Well, in situations where you have ten minutes and aren't being significantly harassed, it doesn't really matter what the health of the command station is. What prompted this for me was taking out the command station while radically outnumbered on the homeworld itself. We'd never have won that fight, but we managed to knock the command center over with a few raid starships (almost by accident) and "sneak" a win in before we died horribly.

It's even funnier if your fleet of 300 bombers suddenly gains the ability to shoot through the core forcefields while you're not paying attention!

I still need to figure out exactly what happened there...
